So here is the final thread where all my GPz750 questions, modifications, restorations and explosions will happen.
pics to come as of tomorrow when the sun is up again.
so you all have the basic stats, here is a more detailed idea of what will be happening before registration comes.
planning to be a semi customisation, not a restoration, not a full bling out, just a nice mix of streetfighter, cafe racer and restored classic.
Paint and Panel:
1- looking at the premix spray packs for a clear or mica green (looking and hoping)and spraying the bike a black or silver undercoat with a metallic green mica colour... attempting a more interesting green than standard kwaka.
2- if this isn't possible, look for people that can shoot paint, go mix some myself for a nice colour, and pay with beer, spirits or sexual favors for a better than spray can finish.
3- frame and related going K&H rattle can gloss chassis black. used it on all the bikes, love it to death for the finish and cheapness. It really is amazing stuff.
4- i would love my wheels to have a polished lip... but i am the economist, going gloss black.
5- Would love a checkerboard / race flag finish on the side of the tank, but im not that good at painting... so id give up on that.
6- one time in the future, a universal streetfighter belly pan.
Engine and suspension-
1- FORKSEALS!!!! (i have them, just need to do)
2- Swingarm bearing (once again, supplied, not fitted)
3- one day rebuild starter (found out that with choke, and 3 blips of throttle, even after an ice cold night and day, it starts at the first kick)
4- need to reseal the extractors as they're "brapping" on 2 cylinders after a backfire blew out some sealant.
5- need to silence the muffler a little bit for blue slip unless i can find someone nice. its not loud until its screaming at high RPM anyways... heavy steel wool stuffing retained by a pin or 2 might be sufficient for blues slip.
the rest:
RIDE THE HELL OUTTA IT!...

Re: Official GPz750 "cafefightrep" project thread.
Day 2:
rode it for a bit more, found what the problems were:
the leaking exhaust is from a bolt in the head thats fallen out, leaving one bolt for one of the headers, the collets slipped out a bit, hence the leak. took them off, need to find another bolt for it. its a threaded hole on the head, so i hope the threads are in good condition or ill probably have to get something welded in there.
after a wicked WD-40 fest and chain lube fest, there are no more squeaks, and it rolls easier than a fat kid down a hill after an icecream truck.
and the speedo will need fixing, it reads up *slowly* but does not come back down.
see more pics, plus pics of the exhaust problem.
sorry about the glare but i dont have a polarising filter and its a bright day.

K+H is shite. Use VHT instead. Easier to use, lasts longer and gives a far better result.
Want your Wheels polished and painted? Send them to me and I will do them for cost.
Fork seals are doddle. Once again want them done and maybe the sliders polished then I am open to offers. I see your willing to offer sexual favours......hmmmmm

Re: Official GPz750 "cafefightrep" project thread.
exhaust has been fixed. soon on the list is some new shinkos and brakepads.
colour has been eliminated down to a few choices.
very metallic green mica, brighter than british racing, but darker than kwaka.
a metallic blue found on skylines. blue mica... not really mica though is it?
and finally NO RED :p... sick of red.

Re: Official GPz750 "cafefightrep" project thread.
oh dear lordie.
so i replaced the missing exhaust stud today.
homemade threaded rod from hi tensile steel, 5 attempts to work out how to get it in without something to grab onto (tried the double nut thing, couldnt gettem off, tried sticky tape, etc etc etc.
eventually a single nut on sticky tape worked, got it sorted, got the collets? back in, and tightened up.
choke, 3 throttle blips, hit start, perfect.
now just need a bit of a service at home and brakepads and we will be GO! for blueslip

Re: Official GPz750 "cafefightrep" project thread.
so i started polishing everything up today.
used:
400 grit wet and dry
800 grit wet and dry
1200 grit wet and dry
autosol paste.
now i was told in the past on a different forum "dont even bother trying to polish metal, it takes too long and your results wont be anything like you wanted"
i was also told it would take for ever....
here is a progress picture set after 15 minuites of polishing on the muffler, and 12 minuites on the rearsets. rearsets will be black in centre.
note, all done by hand, will get the dremel out one day.
not nearly done yet of course
before.

after

wheels are going to be polished lip with black gloss centre (spokes) as well as polished and black engine parts, black frame and etc.
keep looking back for updates.
