First aid stuff

Ok well the first part of this thread has been done to death, the second hasn't.

#1 - The 12R has a surprising amount of room undert he seat if you pack efficiently. I've got an LED torch, race tape, zip ties, chamois, mini chain lube, puncture kit, tyre pump, factory kwak toolkit & extra allen keys. I plan a few small changes to the factory toolkit but otherwise that seems a pretty sufficient list for most minor happenings at the roadside. No more suggestions here? I've still got a little bit of room and can probably reorganise further.

#2 - First aid stuff. I see those little stands in shopping centres selling first aid kits, but I'm not sure how suitable they'd be for a bike... especially given that I'd want something very compact. Can anyone medically minded give a list of stuff that would be useful to have on hand in the event of an accident? Bandages? Saline/Iodine?

1. Most important EVERYONE in your mobile phones put in a number under the heading ICE (In Case of Emergency) cause emergency workers often look for this number first for someone to call if your injured. More than one number ad ICE1 ICE2 etc...

2. Do you first aid certificate!

3. Get a one way mask for resuscitation (to avoid fluid transfer between patient and carer), say 4 of large bandages (you can make a sling out of 1 and have a few for wounds etc), 2 small (say 30ml) bottles of saline (for cleaning eyes), some bandaids...

In an emergency this very basic stuff would help a great deal! You dont want to be doing more than making a patient as comfortable as possible, stop bleeding, maybe a makeshift sling, and the mask for your own protection if your to give someone CPR or EAR. Id never perform EAR or CPR without the use of a mask (long story)...

Im not an Ambo but constantly do Senior First Aid for work...

Anyone else with further ideas?

I carry a Genuine Ford car first aid kit under the seat of the 12....it fits like a glove, and comes in a soft blue case....ring ford, see what they have. Cause its compact and soft, you can squeeze it in quite easily with the tool kit and other things like racetape, lube etc.

I've got a St John's first aid kit under the seat of the 9 - it takes up a lot of space, and touch wood has only ever been used as a pillow (a couple of times) but it's reassuring to know it's there.

Depends on your ability to use what you pack - if you have no First-Aid training, make up a basic kit ( see St. Johns / Red Cross ) & carry that. Best option - do a senior First-Aid course with either of the above & they have kits available @ discount prices. If you're an Old Fart & a member of Ulysses, they run courses that let you claim back 50% .
