The 2nd KR 2nd coming

Post by the kid »

Getting there with the "Steve Austin"
Finally got the crank back with new bearings , rods and seals , so could hook into the lower end of things last Saturday .
Have flowed the cases and had the inlet blocks shortened while waiting for the crank . Barrels still on the way , grrrrrr
A couple of build pics :D

Crikey Billy that bench is a lot tidier than last time I saw it.

So does this mean it's nearly ready for me to have another go on? :?

And after such a productive day in the garage on Saturday , decided to take the Clydesdale out to Heathcote dragstrip on Sunday to see how things go . Gotta be a bit Mad as it was Feckking warm , 36 or so , but the old girl just kept on laying it down  Best at 11.17 @ 127 . Worst 11.6 .
We did 4 runs , one after another without a wimper from the 9 , that is straight after each other , no waiting  Did about a dozen runs before lunch and then decided to head home , too Hot . But I had well and truely got my $40 worth .

So Bill, can you strip and reassemble a KR engine in the dark yet ... just like the soldier boys do with their guns? No wonder I'm going to get rid of my 2 smoke and get another 4 stroke.

Pleased to hear the Clydesdale played nicely ... their strong old farkers aren't they ;)

Hyside Trading , a bloke named Martin who I met at a club meeting . Seems to know his stuff , time will tell  but he has a 350 LC that runs Ok and has built for others who give him the thumbs up . Knows LCs a lot better than KRs . He has no problems with mailing stuff too .
Try hyside@austarnet.com.au
Google his web site and see a few things he can get hold of including Gibson pipes . Pete Gibson is a mate of his , and now living in AUS , semi retired I think .
See ya at the gap . :D

So how much did the crank work cost (roughly)? I suspect the TZR bottom end may be tired since it looks it has had standing water in it and I measured a crank bearing run out of 0.08 mm. Looks like the crankshaft got posted by normal mail to you? I was thinking there might be some crazy postage charges for sending a crankshaft.
Your engine is looking lovely.
That hyside trading website is a bit of a shocker. I don't think the member details are meant to be visible to everyone. Your name and e-mail is there.

The crank cost 725 and I supplied the oil seals from the UK . He had to supply some bits from another KR crank as one of the pins was rooted . New rods contributed a fair bit
Best to get yours rebuilt before it lets go so it will save on damage to the crank and mybe the cases . My cases took a bit of a hammering and I have had to patch a couple of hair line cracks . Postage was cheap and quick . I think it was $12 to send the crank and barrels to him . Still in Victoria so it shouldn't be too crazy . Oh , the bearing were excey too as they have locating pins and are difficult to source . Thanks for the compliment

And if you do a shoulder or something before the weekend, I'm free to ride it. As long as you pay the airfares ;)
