Fairing Repairs

Hey all

Was just wondering if there are any recommended faring repair places in Brisbane?

I have a small crack in my front thanks to my Father in Law (he dropped it in the driveway). I'm not keen to call the insurance peoples.

Also i was considering a custom paint job, not that i don't like the original one - Any recommended painters?

I have been told that before, I just wanted see the difference in price....

- My main concern is getting the scratches Fixed!!

just enquiring.. did you find somewhere to take your bike? I scratched up my zx10r on sat, and need some fairing work done now.
Any help would be great! Im located at ashgrove but can take it anywhere.

Hey mate,

No i haven't managed to fix it yet, I've had so many surprises from bill (bills.. the guy that drains your bank account). I had to go to the dentist... and Bam $580 gone.

I asked the yamaha Team Moto at Enoggera over the phone he reckons they send it to a guy and that it would be $1800 and that i should go through insurance.
Then i asked my local Mechanic (Northside Motorcycle Workshop) at Brendale - He showed his mate and they came back with a quote for $1250.

I haven't got pics but it is just the front and right side fairing (bout 12 or so big scratches and a crack), the oil pan (3 or 4 scratches), the mirror, the bar end and the indicator - damaged. the quote was just for the fairings and the oil pan to be repaired, replaced (cheaper to buy than to fix) and repainted

with those prices why not have a go at the repair job yourself,if its only scratches you need to fix.all you need is some sandpaper,car filler,plastic primer and there should be an auto paint shop that can colour match the paint and put it in a spray can.shouldnt cost more trhan 70 bucks.if it still looks crap,your local auto smash repairer should paint it if you just bring the panels to them.

Just a fair question, how come custom respraying your motorbike decreases its value, I just recently bought a zxr250 and its a blue and silver colour scheme and unfortunalty it has been dropped, I was thinking of going with a super jet black colour, but if infact the price does drop, where can i find the codes for my colour scheme or other zxr250 paint schemes. I will have pictures of my bike up in a few days..

they rarely have original colours and its not going to make any difference to the value ,

I was just agreeing with the others that's all, i havn't painted my bike, the paint job was on it when i bought it. and you can still see the factory green paint on the inside fairing's, i wish the importers didn't have to repaint it.

Sorry I was a bit short with my original statement so here is a brief explanation:
By repainting the bike the exact colours & using OEM stickers you could possibly get away with trying to pass it as original, but the job would have to be good.
If repainting different colours or using different stickers it is immediately recognisable that the bike has either been dropped, crashed or farked with, why else would you repaint a bike? This will affect your resale value & if like many others you want to maximise the value then you would be better off keeping it original.

The way I see it is that dropping or crashing your bike de-values it ... the repairing, replacing and repainting is an added cost of getting your bike back to a reasonable value again. It's the quality of the repair job that gets it closer to market value.

Say you paid $15,000 for a bike. Then after 2 years you have minor stack. Its value was $10,500 before the stack and now its worth maybe $3000 tops.

You repar it with all OEM parts with a cost of $6,500. You are out of pocket $21,500 in total and now sell the bike for $10,000. (only lost $11,500)

If you repair it on the cheap with a cost of say $3,000. Out of pocket $18,000 and sell bike for only $8,000. (only lost $10,000)

thats a big minor stack

no one buys oem at the dealer

you buy parts at the wrecker, ebay or classified like formula xtreme where you will often find a full set of new plastics for $2K from a race bike
