Slipping clutch

Post by wypuk »

Hey guyz
just wondering about something wierd my bike's been doin
when i give it some (hard) in 3rd-5th it sometimes revs but doesnt go anywhere so i have to back off the throttle and reapply gently to make it go
is that a sign that the clutch is cactus?
and if it is how hard is it to replace it yourself?

thanx alot
Alex

Sounds like its on its way out, how many k's are on your bike. You could try doing an oil change

Km is unknown as i bought it with a busted odo
its shown 31K for the 1.5 years ive had it :p
oil change was done 2 months ago when i had a small oops and the engine cover decided to bleed its guts out

how much would it cost to get a new/2nd hand clutch
and is it possible to use a clutch out of a zx6r instead of an OEM?
cheers for the answer i had a feeling it was going goin..... not gone yet :P

Roughing up the steel plates with sandpaper can also work. My TZRs clutch has been slipping badly even though the fibre plates are full thickness and I can't find significant warping on the steels. After roughing the steels up it's all good.
