Ah Feck, dropped me f*in bike.

Post by mike-s »

Genius moment, bike battery wasn't kicking the bike over quite enough. Went to take it out the driveway to rollstart it, had a brainfart and kicked it down into first without having the clutch in enough as i was turning out of the driveway (downhill too) and down she went. Result is a slight plastic scuff on the top fairing snapped left peg, clutch lever and totally shattered front left indicator (i havent checked but i think the plastics popped off the rear one too.

Will assess the damage later, but now i've got to feck off ant get to work, but for now i'll be thankfull the plastic didnt break as that is a bastard to get hold of, especially in my bikes colour scheme

What an AWESOME way to start the day.........

Bugger Mike. You could take the opportunity to replace it with a Kawasaki :)

Ha ha very funny dave :P.
Must be a morning for it, on the way into work some muppet in a 4x4 managed to spin out with a trailer attached and take out a taxi and effectively block 2 of the 3 citybound lanes on general holmes drive. Combining the bike drop and limping it back inside with that accident (that was 45 minutes plus just to go 1km) i got to work well over 75 minutes late :? .

Everyone was more concerned with my welfare than that of the bikes.

I think im just going to go the scattergun approach and buy as many bits as i can, anything it turns out i don't need can be spares for next time. The biggest irony of this is the one thing i DO have a spare off (bought a new gear lever i just hadn't bothered attaching) is the one thing that could have snapped that didn't!

Hey Mike,

You could always cover the damage with those chequered flag stickers that were all over it originally!

Seriously, hope it's not too bad. ;)

Too bad mike, really sorry to hear of your loss mate, hope it's an easy fix...

Kind of reminds me of a few weeks ago, i was leaving my mates place, he lives on a split block and if you turn left out of his driveway, you head straight down hill. I usually roll out of the driveway late at night and start the bike further down the street so as to not wake up his direct neighbours (in-laws). Anyway, this time i started the bike on the way down his driveway, forgot it was in neutral, turned hard, twisted the throttle......nothing happenned........bike was getting lower and lower, corner was getting sharper and sharper......slammed my foot down (wish i could do that with the missus) and just got out of it, had to ride with my leg off all the way home from tensing the muscle so hard.

this morning, i was taking off from the lights at the top of spit hill, trying a little too hard in the wet me thinks. The take off went fine but 50m up the road there was a section of dark black tar, it's a mild corner and my back didn't like it much ended up about 30 degrees in the wrong direction until it gripped and tried to highside me. If i was on full sports instead of the Z i think i would have been lying on my back. The front twisted a bit and it pulled back into line so i continued on my way through Mosman.........again with my leg hanging off the side cause i cramped up so much.

Well i've done a bit of a callaround and have located a pair of indicator lenses as well as a footpeg for very reasonable prices at a nearby wreckers. I will be picking up the new bits in the morning and fitting them when i am able to, unfortunately i wont get to fit them during the day and im not sure ill have the time to fit them in the evening either.....

I just need to establish how the hell the indicator is mounted to see if there is any permenant damage to the fairing on the bike which would require plastex magic to fix (i.e. was it only in a rubber mounting thet it stretched and moved through, or did it "punch through" some fairing plastic when it was for a lack of a better word, smashed to hell).

That having been said, i think im up for a new battery too as this thing goes flat far far too readily for my liking, will try my luck picking one up from supercheap tomorrow when i get the other bits.

If i can be arsed i'll take some photos when i get home.

btw JewJew, sounds like you've been having a great old time like me, I should have taken the dropped bike as a hint and crawled back into bed, massive smash on General holmes drive on the way to work made me go from 20 minutes late to nearly a hour and a half late. Then there was all the stuff that spontaneously went to crap at work that we had to fix, oh it was fun, heaps of fun.

Thank fark the days nearly over though, im going to go abuse a couple of becks beers when i get home methinks.

just had a go at taking some photos with the incredibly shit camera in my phone. Be warned the quality is pretty shithouse.
Only extra damage is some slight scratching onto the LHS fairing insert. Also found outtheleft indicator mounts on the front h frame. need totake the fairing off and take to it with a pair of vice grip pliers.

that was my attempt at using "night mode" on the camera, all it managed to do was wash the image out to hell and make it incredibly grainy.

Any yeah, agreed, not the worst thing i coulda had happen.

Hah, true. But it just goes to show how you can screw yourself up if your preoccupied for even a second. I dont consider myself an awesome rider, but still a very competent one though and i had a brainfart doing something ive done out of my driveway a dozen times before. Oh well got ALL the parts including a new battery (the cause of my woes) for just on $110 today.

Am going to get into this something seriously, might even go as far as refit the carbon pipe now i've gotten all the bad voodoo out of the way.
