good/bad moments on the road

Post by Yankee »

just like to hear some stories, good and bad, that have happened to you.... i just put an example of a bad one in the "cage lane splitting" post.
here's another (i'm on a roll)
again, it was about a year or so ago, raining out, on my way to work from school (on the cbr6 again) so heading up roma st. to milton rd. [qld], in that curving off left lane to turn left only.
well, cool dude with his girlfriend in the ute (some too cool ute thing that was kitted out) was in the right lane and decided they too wanted to turn left, at the last second. again, i was right there beside them, but this time no where to go forward, so had to jam on the brakes.
it's wet, there's a big concrete wall to my further left and this idiot is coming in to the left lane with me, so i did my first ever (and only) front tyre sliding endo! (okay, have done a few more trying to do stoppies on cold tyres) but anyway, the sound of my locked up front tyre was amazingly loud and the dude knew instantly what he was doing wrong (no indicator of course by him), so he slams on his brakes.... don't know how nothing happened???
anyway, next set of lights, he gets out and is apologizing like crazy! he didn't see me, yadda yadda yadda his girlfriend was white..... everything turned out okay with that one, just scarey as hell while it happened.
so anyone have some stories to tell?????? :?: :?: :?:

Similar tpye of story.

Going to work in the pissin's of rain in Dublin on a Gpz750 around '84 when a guy in a jamjar decides to go from the outside lane on a dual carriageway across two lanes and an emergency lane to a petrol station.

I was on his inside, hauled on the anchors but lost the front end and ended up sliding under the rear bumper of his car as he went across my path. Luckily a guy behind me on a 400/4 Honda saw it.

Insurance company followed thru but he moved house twice to avoid the rap. Got a new 4:1 and raingear as a result.

No lasting physical injuries and the mood swings are almost gone

Years ago on my little Rhonda MVX250 "rin nin nin" Riding home from work in a afternoon sunshower going up a slight grade 4 lane road concrete gutter strip seperating the two directions. I see about 100meters up the road a young lady running along the footpath towards the Pedestrain crossing pole. I thinks "dont do it love" It was a pedestrain stop light not an intersection. Well be buggered if she didn't .... She smacks the Button on the posts & without even looking up decides to make a "bolt for it across the road". So i gently grab the anchors cause she & me are going to have an "interesting exchange of Fluids" if i dont. Anyway road grade is also right to left n bike lowsides to the right n puts me on my arse sliding past the back of her by about 3 foot. The bike slid in front of her by about 6 foot. She stopped an d watched us go by then put her head down n "hot footed it" onto the footpath n outta my life. Stoopid Person. Me n bike got out with minor damage & learnt a good lesson. Its Not just Traffic that we have to watch i now scan wider to encompass more "What Ifs".

well I'll lighten the mood with a good story. Was riding home, following a lancer, and the chick driving starts waving out the window and looking at me in her rear view mirror. I thought she had mistaken me for someone she knew, hell, maybe she had. Anyway we pull up at the lights and she sticks her head out and hollers 'Go Kawasaki" or something similar. This gal REALLY liked kawasakis for some reason... anyway as i take off she flashes me :) ..one bit of scenery i wasnt expecting (but still very much appreciated hehe) and i give her a thumbs up as i make a turn off. the dude in the passenger seat was giving me death stares lol...don't think he was too impressed with her show of affection :P

i had a good experience on satdy heading home...pulled up between 2 cars at
traffic lights, theres a lil red BMW...looking in theres 2 boys in the back
abt 7 or 8 id guess, the mum in the passenger seat & a hot 19-20yo chick
driving...im trying to have a perve (warm day = short skirt...youngin wasnt
bad either ;-p)...the kid yells "hello" i say "gday champ how r ya"....the
oldy in the passenger seat is pissing herself...the kid yells "love ur bike
" i say "thanks mate, ur a clever kid", he yells, "bikes are so cool, wen i
grow up i wanna ride a bike" i said "mate i still havent grown up"...no
scratch that..i said "thats wot i wanna hear mate, then ull b cool like
me"...by this stage the 2 women in the front are pissing themselves, the
younger ones waving...lights go green, she nails it..i nail it...she laughs
& waves...so i "launch the farker" up on the back wheel to the tune of her
horn tooting wildly....a few min later the car cruises past me as im sitting
on 100 and the ladies are still laughing, and the kids are trying to hang
out the window, giving me the thumbs up with the biggest grins ive ever seen
on a kids face (cept maybe sum of them alter boys)...
kinda made my day...

I've had a couple of moments...

On my old '95 9R, crossing a busy intersection in the city, the car in front brakes (I'm about half way across). I applied brakes - the front locks up straight away, and slides to the right. I'm now thinking F*ck, where's my bike??! cause I now only have bitumen in front of me... it then grips the road and comes back, but then locks up again and this time slides to the left... Grips again and I now ride onto the wrong side of the road (with a rapid heart rate you wouldn't believe).

I park up and sit for about 5 minutes, I couldn't believe how fast it happened, it was pure luck I didn't crash.

Went back and checked, nice rubber marks from the front wheel and desiel/oil where it started.... Now I always buy the best tyres I can.

Second event - cruising down the freeway, raining and quite windy. Sitting on 100kmh, approching a bridge I see all these cars parked under it...

Say to myself "Wot a bunch of pansies, bit of water neva hurt anyone"... and ride straight into the biggest hail storm I've ever encounted...

The road turned white and the wheels started to move side to side (still doing 100...) Fark me hail hurts, even with wet weather gear! backed off to 70 and cruised thru it.

Well, that's me done, time for food. 8)
