Your KAWA obsession story
Was thinking about this after seeing some photos on the site here...
Bunch of middle aged bikies all wearing fluro green hoodies and bomber jackets.... funny
how does that start? i understand 'bike' obsession, but not really brand obsession,
Personally i stumbled onto kawasaki, just so happened when i upgraded from my 250 and made a compulsive ZX6R purchase, cause it
was a great price... could have just as easily ended up with the GSXR that was on sale right next to it!
'apparently' - those more intelligent are attracted to the colour green! TOOOT

Re: Your KAWA obsession story
You are only obsessed when you have the underpants. I don't but according to my family when I bleed I bleed green.
I think it stems from being the smallest of the Jap bike producers but always being at the forefront of road rockets from the triples through the Z9s right up to the ZX1400. Kwakas have an uniqueness that I think is only shared by maybe Ducati, Triumph and heaven forbid HD. For me when they brought out the ZRX they just made my day memories of a bygone era with all the wonderment of modern technology, best of both worlds. Yamaha sort of did it with the FJ1200 Honda failed with CB1300 and Suzuki has never attempted a reborn Katana.

Re: Your KAWA obsession story
I'm not obsessed. I just don't buy anything else.
Kawasaki's just fit me - the ergonomic relationship between 'bars, pegs and seat seems to work best for me of all the Jap bikes and most of the rest. I can ride Kwaka's all day and only get the usual numb bum syndrome, but other sportsbikes do nasty chiropractic things to me within a fairly short time.
Sooks are the worst and Ho's aren't much better, although I can get away with riding Yamahahas for a while.
Plus Kawasaki tends to anticipate (and sometimes creates) motorcycling trends better than the rest, rather than following them.
And I'm not middle-aged!
It's not the years that count, it's the mileage! Er, okay, maybe I lose on that one as well - but I flatly refuse to grow up, damn it!

Re: Your KAWA obsession story
The Katana was attempted in a 250 version but I dont think we got any out here... My 750 Pop up headlight version was a blast & spun out the tin tops with no head light visible.... beautifull bike it was untill I parked it under a stationary carrooster wrote:You are only obsessed when you have the underpants. Re: Your KAWA obsession story
My first bike was a Kawasaki 75
When I grew up a bloke in my street had a 500 triple and the ducks guts of bikes was the Z900
The most bulletproof bike I've owned was a Kawasaki KS125 which I run totally out of oil and seized out at Menai. Pushed it back squirted some gear oil down the plug hole, mixed some used sump oil into the fuel and it went for another two years until I sold it.
Bought my 98 ZX9 because everyone else had R1's
Bought my 10 because I loved my 9 and everyone else had R1's and it was a Kwaka
What other make has a riders club like this

I am obsessed...
And i'm not ashamed to say so.
I sat on a ZX6 in 1995 and fell in love with them instantly - it just felt right. I'm now on my 3rd 636 and my next bike will be a Kwaka too.
i am on medication for this - a prescription of alcohol.

Re: Your KAWA obsession story
I'm not obsessed, the J model ZXRs just give me the horn massively. I started on a Z250 which could have been any make, it was just a cheap learner legal bike for me, then I graduated to an '87 GSXR750. Sold that ages ago, but when I bought that bike the ZXR was the one I lusted after, along with the first of the water cooled GSXRs. My bike came up at the right price and I had to have it, I flew to QLD and rode it home to Canberra, so maybe I'm a little obsessed, but it was a small price to pay for a bargain motyciccle. Can't see myself buying anything else, this is my dream bike unless I become affluent in which case I'll buy a Ducati to have as well, not instead of.

I resemble that remark...BikerBoy wrote:Was thinking about this after seeing some photos on the site here...

how does that start? i understand 'bike' obsession, but not really brand obsession,

The reason I keep buying Kawasaki's is cause I have so much Kawasaki gear it would cost me more than the cost of a bike to change my wardrobe...

Anyway, we don't really have that much Kawasaki gear, but we have a lot of KSRC gear...
My first bike was a KX80, it had no problems so I didn't see the need to change.. as I already had the green mx gear.
KX80
another KX80
KX125
KDX250
GPZ 500
GPX 750
ZX7r
ZX9r
ZX10r
and a backwards step to a zxr750r.. but is an r therefore a collectors item, (thats what I tell the wife anyway..)
oh, and if I bought another brand, I'd be kicked of my own site....

Re: Your KAWA obsession story
My first road bike was a GPX250. Then got a couple of Hondas. After that, I decided I wanted either a Yamaha YZF600R or a ZZR600. Rode 'em both and liked 'em in about equal parts. My ZZR came up at the right price, so I snapped it up. Up until March last year I averaged 25-30000km/yr on it.
March last year I decided that the ZZR didn't have the ground clearance I wanted. I further decided that it would be smarter to get another bike rather than make massive suspension changes to an old ZZR. Best bike decision I've ever made, because I got a 2002 ZX9R - IMO the best street bike I've ever ridden, and that includes newer litre bikes.
Since then, I've started doing up the old ZZR's suspension anyway (limited to custom shock work at the moment, but who knows?)!
My next street bike will probably be another ZX9R, when I wear this one out. That's a loooooong way off.

Yeah I was actually after a GSXR750,but there were no decent ones around in my price range at the time, then i saw this ZX6R advertised and loved it on the test ride, love the induction noise it makes!!Now i love the Kawasakis, guess sometimes you don't know until you try what you're missing.

Re: Your KAWA obsession story
Snap, except trade the spewies for yamahahahahas. I owned my yam 750 from nov 1996 until dec 2003, and wrote off a kwak and a honda during that time. I presently own a kwak and a honda. But I only own 1 honda shirt and have more kwak/ksrc shirts than I really know what to do with.Stereo wrote:Im not obessed.... I've had 2x Suzuki, 2x Honda and 2x Kawasaki....
