Front brake adjustment on 06 ZX6R
Front brake adjustment on 06 ZX6R
Hey guys,
i have noticed that the point where my brakes on my ZX6R start to bite is progressivly getting further in the lever, i have to pull it in about 50% before it actually starts to stop the bike, is there an adjustment for this? the bike only has 1600km on it

Re: Front brake adjustment on 06 ZX6R
do they have a rotating adjuster like the zed does??
if so, push forward on the lever..then turn the clicker (has 4 or 5 numbers with cams in the lever) and try a diff setting...
failing that...have a look at seeing how stuffed ya pads are...

^^^ i'm with stupid...
The 06 636 does have the 5 point clicker rotating adjuster thingo, i think is the really close one. I found that the pads wear down quite quickly, depending on how hard u use the brakes! but yeah adjuster and pad thickness, (how much meat is left)

Thanks for the input guys,
The bike is brand new and has 1600km on it, the adjustment on the lever is set to '3' and goes from 1-6. I would say that pads have heaps of meat on them, about 5-6mm.
So which way to i turn the nobby thing? towards 1 or 6? and what does this actually do?

it adjusts the position of where the lever sits
move it and see
as to the amount of lever travel , some bikes just have excessive lever travel
a brake bleed with new fluid might change it

have a play with the adjuster and find out can't remeber which way, plus when u goto move it, push the clutch lever/brake lever away from the handle bar and it makes it possible to move!

Re: Front brake adjustment on 06 ZX6R
I know the feeling after changing my front brakelines. First attempt at bleeding didn't get all the air out.
If the bike is new as you say, drop it back in for a proper bleed under warranty. It shouldn't need new fluid being so new.

Re: Front brake adjustment on 06 ZX6R
Note that adjusting the lever does absolutely *nothing* to the fluid mechanics of the system. It merely puts the lever further out so that when you pull it in it firms up at a position further out, or further in depending on the adjustment.
If you want to improve the level of spongyness etc, you'll need to look at bleeding the system or going along the lines of ye old brake upgrade options (braided lines, m/c, etc etc etc).
