Sprocket size 45 or 46
I have a ZX6R 05 which has sprocket set of F15 & R43. So I am thinking R45 or 46. Does anyone have these ratios. I believe the chain is a 520.
Re: Sprocket size 45 or 46
tis not a good idea to have a 1:3 ratio
1 down Front or 3 up rear is the most common thing so go with the 46

they dont make a 46 rear but do make a 45. I dont think you will notice much on a 45 rear so go the 14 front.

Re: Sprocket size 45 or 46
standard pitch on those is 525 i think (just finished researching Plas' for him)
heres the tip....
1 on the front is = 3 on the back...
so i went up 2 onthe back cos i didnt want a huge difference, just a small one... but in sum cases u can only get certain sizes.... so dropping one on the front is favourable to gaining 3 on the back ....
if u use this bike for commuting, or want lots of KM out of a chain & sprockets, go for steel sprockets (aluminium WONT last as long) and go the thickest pitch u can (525, or 530...520 is a race chain...very light, but wont last as long)
if its mostly for "track" riding..go the 520.... just dont expect it to last long...

You can get a 46 sprocket and the ZX6R 05 up is a 520 chain. So this might be a good option as i dont have to change the front sprocket because i have heard that going down one in the front puts more stain on the chain and box.

The smaller the front sprocket is the further the chain must deform from straight in order to rotate around it! Thus robbing valuable power transfer through frictional loss. I would try and go up on the rear rather than down on the front! But in reality I'd just learn to corner a bit faster and leave the gearing as it was!aus636 wrote:You can get a 46 sprocket and the ZX6R 05 up is a 520 chain. really?? shit aye....aus636 wrote:You can get a 46 sprocket and the ZX6R 05 up is a 520 chain. So this might be a good option as i dont have to change the front sprocket because i have heard that going down one in the front puts more stain on the chain and box.
the zed is 525 which shocked me..i put a 520 on the blade and it chewed it out real quick (see pic of sprocket- teeth were destroyed)... but it makes sense to put thicker chain on bugger bike...
as Strika said, plus a smaller front sprocket means more wear on the front..that why i went up 2 on the back last time...made a difference, not a huge one, but it was a bit more accel...
