Got another Big Banger !!

Post by Gosling1 »

well, in a manner of speaking...........

A mate rang me at work last week, to discuss the sale of a 1983 ZX1100GpA1 - these are the ones with air-cooled 1100 motors, and a single-shock rear. The first 10-second Kawasaki ..........so legend has it

This is the same model as PC's green one. Due to a death in the family of the seller, it had to go, and go quickly. So it has. Into my shed :P

I have gone halves with another local ZX owner - he is taking all the bodywork and cosmetics, and I am getting the engine and running gear/rolling chassis basically (minus a couple of bits).

For $500 its a pretty good deal - I was looking at over $600 for a piston kit for my other motor, plus a gasket kit, so total cost would be around $800 ?? For $500, its a complete and running motor (nice and quiet as well, mechanically it sounds excellent), so it should go well as a donor motor for the track-hack.....plus *lots* of other bits....

I will get some photos from PC and bung them up here. It looks great, but there was some frame cracks not visible in the photo, the rear suspension linkages have *heaps* of play, and the front forks had worn through the chrome in a couple of spots, so not really economical to re-build this baby.........

God I love finding cheap old 1100's !!! (and we have found *another* one , but this one will be going to PC !!! )

A dealer in Ipswich was telling me the other day that a GPZ11, also 83 I think sold recently for $200000 because they are a collectors item. He reckons only 13 were imported into Aus. He has another. I'm wondering what he was smoking.
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

 WTF ?? an 83 GpZ worth 200 thou ??? tell him he's joking !!!

The ZX1100A1 of 1983 was pretty common, all the GpZ series from 1981-1984 were imported in *large* numbers ( well, by Ozzie standards anyway).

The 1980 Z1000H - aka The Black Pearl - ........well that is almost as rare as rockin' horse shit - Only 33 of these were imported into Oz in 1980, from a limited run of 1000 worldwide. I wish I owned more than 2... , almost snagged another in Sydney a few years ago, and I know of 1 other up in Qld in bits, one day I will convince the hippy that owns it to sell it to me........

Must get some photos up of the new beastie........while its still together !

 it was as shithouse as you would expect !! the bloody thing dragged its guts going over the driveway !!!

its all ancient history now, the bodywork is already off, I will get all the DFI stuff off this weekend, old mate is coming over sometime to pick it up.......the quicker that engine is out and up on the bench, the happier I will be.....

Mick W has got the head fixed on the other 1100, so that will be going back together next week......
