Why are new bikes so much cheaper in Mlebourne?!

I've been comparing the prices of new Z1's and dare i say... SV1000's in sydney and Melbourne, and melbourne stores seem to be able to take $1500 of the price.. crazy ..

Has anyone done this sort of comparison before? meaning to factor in NSW rego, greenslip, melb syd transport? ..it still seems like a better deal in melbourne, even with extra costs... but maybe i'm forgetting something.

I might be in the market for a new KLR650 soon ... depending on how they go on a test ride, What kind of price difference would be needed to make it worth while buying one in Melbourne?
For example you'd have to factor in Flying down to Melbourne, transport to the shop and then riding back to Sydney (possibly a nights accommodation somewhere in there too), then once you have it in Sydney you'd have to register it, what's the time frame there? does it need to be done straight away? does it have to be blue slipped as well because it was registered in a different state? can you rego it in Melbourne when you buy it as you don't live in Victoria? do you get any refund on the rego you paid in Melbourne? if not does that mean you have to pay two lots of rego for the first year?
Lot's of questions I know but does anyone know the answers? and I'm sure I've left out a few considerations too!

Mate of mine in Sydney bought a brand new dirt toy from Vic somewhere (regional I think) and the guy in the shop met him halfway with the bike on a trailer. The service was absolutely sensational.

If its a brand new bike there's no reason to fly there, do the test riding here in sydney, call them or get a friend in Melb to visit, and all you really need to pay is the cost to transport mel-syd.. i guess.

maybe $500 to transport a bike interstate?

any kawasaki fiends what to go and bargain down an SV? heh

Why wouldn't you just ring them and do the deal over the phone!! If it's a new bike, it won't matter if you eyeball it or not! If it was 2nd hand I'd understand it! Do the deal over the phone, lob a deposit on a credit card or EFT it, then hop on a $99 one way virgin/Jetstar/Qantas/greyhound flight/bus and come pick it up! Ride it home on a permit and get it rego'd when you get home! Easy!

personally, id see it as all too hard... are u gunna trade ur bike for starters?? cos thats a 2 way ride...

$500 to transport the bike...and hope to buggery it doesnt get damaged...

then u have to rego it... and the rooting around...

if u tell the sydney dealer u can get a bike $1500 cheaper, will they match it??

i got my bike in SA just cos it was sooooo much easier...
