Has anyone used iridium spark plugs

Post by jewjew »

I was wondering what the benefits are for iridium spark plugs, and if they are worth it?

Have run them in various bikes & have not noticed any real differance apart from the fact they are a bitch to read the plug colour for tuning & cost a heap! :?

Depends whether you mean iridium or platinum. I think I have platinum plugs in my Z440, which the previous owner fitted. I've done around 20000km since and they're still good. :D

i've used them, on the second set now. the original set were fine for 40K, thats 4 services (10 is much easier to remember then 12). when you think about it if you use your bike alot it is a cost saving as they are not 4 times the price of the normal plug but last 4 times longer.

according to my mechanic, that is a friend not just my mechanic, that is the advantage of them, not so much a performance increase.

yeah i got a set of platinums which are supposed to be the longer lasting ones.

only put them in a couple of months ago so cant yet comment, but apparently you can get up to 100,000km out of em...

if you believe that though Martie has some shares in the west gate for you.

from my understanding and research i don't think the iridium last any longer than normal and are supposed to be a performance part.

dunno bout that 40K from 1 set of plugs would be unheard of with normal plugs. started first time everytime, even with the original battery that I only changed this march before going to the island

umm if u check ur maths skills Phil. :P . the Iridiums cost $26 or so each..and normal were $5 last time i bought one (admittedly a while ago).... so its a touch OVER 4 times the price (more like 5 times)...

on the blade u had to change them at 24,000km... on most bikes they say 12,000km dont they??

apparently ..according to my research previously, they burn cleaner and last longer without gumming and crap, and apparently the spark is stronger...

not quite champ, at least $10 for the plugs, your fairy blade may have used cheapo plugs but the 9's were cr9e, the r stands for resistor and that are a fair bit more.....so at $10 they work out cheaper......

also, found it started first time everytime, even after nearly 40K, then again some people here would not do that amount of k's in a lifetime :P

I bought a set of NGK CR9E plugs for my 7 a few weeks ago and they were about $5 each... The hot tip though, is to use the CR9EK plugs instead.
They have the twin tabs on the end and are slightly longer. They are supposed to have better spark and the extra length and area of the tabs also increases compression, albeit very slightly... so I'm told...
I bought a set of these the other day and they cost about $6 each...
