The age old dilemma......

Post by Bluefly »

Three weeks on from Randy being stolen, I'm going to have to start thinking about the unthinkable and look at replacing him.

Please don't stop reading when I say I'm looking at all the options (meaning H%#da, and yes - even Y@m@h@)....

It all comes down to height for me, as usual, so I was wondering if anyone knows, out of the 2-4 year old R1's, Fireblades and ZX10's which one has the greatest height adjustability?

Looking through bikes of about that era (2004), they all have similar seat heights of 31.5-32.7inches. The guide didn't have any info on adjustability though. If it's not too presonal, what height was Randy once he was lowered?

See if you can find a few to swing your leg over, because there is a bit of variety in seat width and shape that has a big impact on how easy it is for a short arse to get their feet to the ground. I know Cath sat on the Crim down at PI and said she could touch the ground easier than on her 6.

9's have a noticeably wider tank than the 10, so the seat is shaped differently and can make it a bit trickier for shorties. I think the 12 is a bit the same.

At least it will give you a good starting point to then do the other modifications you might need.

...and I'm only going off what I've seen and been told because at 6'3" it isn't a problem for me ;)

Don't shoot me but the new gixxers are good for the vertically challenged.. the seats are narrow, making it easier to touch the ground

I was *really* surprised to read that, so I checked some figures and it seems like the 636 is actually 5 mm taller than the z750. I'd have thought the difference was more!

Nah, Cath didn't sample the z750, she was never into the whole naked thing. I test rode one at Narellan while her bike was being serviced loved it!!!

Thanks for your advice guys.

I'm not into naked bikes at all, so that's not an option. Nor is a 636 (don't want to go backwards in cc's). Looks-wise, I've narrowed it down to 2 models I really like (see piccies). I reckon they're both pretty s.exy!!!

A ZX10's definitely in the mix. Just don't want green, the black looks too small compared to Randy - but the titanium's growing on me.....
