canberra to ulladulla/batemans bay

Post by rocco »

Hey All,

anyone covered from Canberra to ulladulla in the past year or months?

is it, canberra, bungendore, braidwood and the coast?

I havnt been on clyde mountain before and was wondering if its road is nice neat and tidy or are we looking at partial dirt roads along the trip?

Is the clyde super dangerous for motorcyclists?

cheers

Mate, the Clyde is super fun for motoryclists, you'll have a great time riding up and down it. I went down in the car about 2-3 weeks back and aside from a bit of resurfacing between bungendore and braidwood, the road is in good nick (there haven't been dirt sections for donkeys years, although I bet Gos remembers when there was). Just watch your speed near the towns, the coppers like that bit of road, especially around holidays.

Like Mel says, it's usually dry, and if it isn't it's usually only misty up the top...but occasionally it will be drenched eh Mel ;)

Rocco, its a great road, the bit fom Braidwood to the coast. The rest is a bit *ho hum*, and heavily policed on weekends / school holidays.

No dirt on the Kings Highway for decades... even riding it as long as I have (almost 30 years) I cannot remember any dirt sections, apart from roadworks from time to time.

If it is wet in Canberra, it will be dry on the coast.....and vice versa. The Clyde Mountain section is just awesome when there is no traffic........which isn't very often.....

Take your time on the first time, especially going down, there are some steep descents and 30kmh hairpins  and some of the 45k corners need to be taken at the posted limit .....but not all of them ...

I did the Clyde last year on my way to the snowy ride. Some was alright, but a few sections were a bit rough. Remember one corner with some significant corregations in it. Maybe my bike is just rough as guts though...

One of the hairpins is hell-bumpy... and I actually managed to remember which one before I hit it today :D Most of the rest of it is pretty smooth though... and there's lots of good overtaking spots.

Fun fun FUN!

Was a bit drizzly on the mountain today but was still really good.

Went for a run there today before lunch, was dry. The first section before Nelligen(?) I thought was good, nice and smooth road. There were some other good sections between there and Braidwood too, but some bumpy bits you gotta watch out for. Yeah and one of the hairpins is REAL rough, watch out for that one
