Plastic welding

Does any one know of a good plastic welder in Sydney? I took a chunk out of my fairing geting it off the trailer the other day.
Or is it easy to do yourself??
Any info will be greatly appriciated.

you can do it yourself with a heatgun and the correct plastic rods if your not to worried what it looks like, it will take some practice to do a good job of it.

Dude call Mototech at Smithfield. They plastic welded the fairings on my zxr400 the other week. Can't remember the phone number sorry

Where can you get the plastic rods to weld with from? AFAIK you can use a soldering iron and these rods to plastic weld but I dunno where you can get them from.

If you can get hold of some broken fairing thats the same plastic, you can cut it into strips.

Body filler is handy also if it's not too bad

just try some plastex, thats a helluva lot easier than solder heating it and welding it.

Plastic welding is carried out using a hot air gun and it is preferable to use broken bits of fairing as filler material.

You can knock together a "plastic welder" using a paint stripping hot air gun and reducing the "working" end using copper plumbing fittings e.g. 50mm to 25mm reducer - 25mm to 15 mm internal reducer - 15mm to 10mm internal reducer

works a treat for short duration jobs BUT will overheat and trip out if used for too long due to the restricted airflow
