Key broken off in lock...

Ok well a few weeks ago... ok a couple of months ago.... well maybe 3 the key I had to Sarah's car broke off in the lock...

So I just used the remainder of the key for a while, till the other week I took it off my key ring and through it out because I might have had a few drinks and thought it was rubbish...

So now I need to get the rest of the damn key out so I can get in through the drivers side door of the shitbox charade..

So this leads me to my query.. Anyone here have experience in doing this???

I know I could remove the barrel and get a locksmith to reset the lock and thus getting the barrel cleared... but this costs money, and being the tight arse that Rossi has trained me to be, I want to tray and get it out myself..

So just wondering if there is a specific tool that will do the job.. I've tried a few things, but it's a case of either abit to wide or in the case of the swiss army knife, not being able to grip the key to pull it out.

The other issue being that you need enough grip to pull the key out from the grasp of the selectors in the barrel itself.

Anyway if anyone has any sensible idea's let me know... I used to have a mate that's a locksmith but because I'm not into car audio anymore we don't talk

I've taken a couple of broken keys out before mate, Bring it round if you want and we'll have a go. Last one took me about 3 hours but i got it, that was in a pintara.

It's a '93 or 94 from memory.

I tried tweezers.. the only ones that looked like fitting I was told I wasn't to touch them... *sighs*

tried some pointy bits on a small swiss army k-nife without any luck. the key hole is pretty norrow and the key is in about 1.5-2cm

gunna try my mate that works at JB and see if any of his snap-on pliars are small enough. *fingers crossed* but I doubt it... RRRrrr

I think you might end up having to take the lock out. I had to take one of ours out when we first got it. Its probably quicker than spending days poking at it with the tweezers.

Mate, bring it over, WD40 and a Hammer should fix it

Assuming the key halfs touch, dab a bit of very strong glue on the half you have, let is go tacky and shove it in the lock. Wait a moment, and pull whole key from lock.

This is a never tried or tested method, and may fill the entire lock with glue. But hey, I came up with a semi sensible suggestion.
