Replacing a GPX250 indicator

Post by Tenoq »

Trying to replace the left-front indicator on my girlfriend's GPX 250 with an aftermarket unit, but having a little trouble. The aftermarket one is of exactly the same design, with the exception of the bolt that connects it to the mounting bracket.

On the OEM indicator, this bolt is 'set' in the plastic of the indicator, and then attaches to the mounting bracket with a nut and some washers. On the aftermarket one, there is a hole to screw the bolt into the indicator, but no bolt is included. After MELTING the OEM bolt out of the OEM indicator, I've discovered it's not a screw at all, but just some patterned metal that was fused to the indicator.

So how do I get a bolt that's got two screwy bits on each end of different sizes that will suit my aftermarket indicator? The bolts aren't included with the indicator, and they cannot be bought seperately, according to the shop. Is this something I'm likely to find in a hardware store? It seems like a pretty specialised design. :( Anyone else worked around this somehow? Epoxy? :P

Mate, you can buy threaded bar from Bunnings or any fastener shop, where in Melbourn are you ?

That easy huh? I've got a Bunnings just up the road. Might take the indicator and the nut for the bolt up to them and see if they've got something to suit. :)

My son's indicator needed replacing - I just drilled out the plastic to make the bolt fit. What they really should do is sell you a bolt with the indicator.

that would be the easy way of doing things, you cant expect them to do that.
