according to this a few studies are pushing towards nsw adopting the victoria approach of unsigned cameras. a certain H Scruby, a.k.a. the dancing monkey is a clear advocate of it.
perhaps we should use this sign instead?
number of speeders reduced, but they are still gouging
Even with hidden cameras there would be nothing stopping people finding them and marking them in the gps. All it would take then is some bright wag to make a bunch of signs and they are marked again.

We have mobile cameras, but they tend to pick a lucrative stretch of road and after a while you learn the particular spots. If I see a gold Nissan X-Trail or a green Subaru Forrester in these places I can be 99.9% certain its a camera. They do try sneaky things like sitting with his foot on the brake and leaving the indicator on to make it look like he's stopped to answer the phone.

Yeah, we have those. A white late model Landcruiser Wagon, a blue Hilux, and a white Ford Transit. They also pick straight lucrative sections of road. Where they can ping you from behind a cluster of trees at the end or begining of a longish run is the favorite.Daisy wrote:We have mobile cameras, but they tend to pick a lucrative stretch of road and after a while you learn the particular spots. The main one that will get you around here is a red Comodore in the blue and white pattern with the lights etc. The colour however tends to hide well in traffic. They have stated that they are usually within 100m before a driver notices them.

well an update here, abelit one i would interpret as a good one.
still Harold scruby is still beating his drum, im surprised he hasn't got a price on his head, he's that f*ing annoying to the majority of people.Andrew Clennell@smh wrote: THE State Government and the Opposition say they have no plans to introduce hidden speed cameras similar to those operating in Victoria despite evidence they can detect more speeding motorists.
The Herald revealed yesterday that speeding fines had dropped by 220,000 in NSW over the past three years, mostly because of a big drop in the number of offences picked up by Roads and Traffic Authority static speed cameras.
The Pedestrian Council of Australia, which obtained the figures, has called for hidden speed cameras, saying motorists are learning where cameras are and slowing down only in those spots.
However, with an election approaching, few politicians are keen to endorse hidden cameras as a way of trying to reduce road accidents.
The Opposition transport spokeswoman, Gladys Berejiklian, said the answer to better road safety lay in the Opposition's promise to recruit an extra 300 highway patrol police officers. "Speed cameras have their place, but there is no substitute for police vehicles on the streets," Ms Berejiklian said.
The Minister for Roads, Eric Roozendaal, said motorists were given fair warning about all fixed speed cameras in NSW.
"There are no plans to change this policy. The latest independent research shows a 90 per cent drop in fatalities where fixed speed cameras have been installed and a 20 per cent reduction in injury crashes.
"I would be happy if we didn't raise a cent from speed cameras if that meant people were driving within the law and at speed limit."
He said speeding accounted for 40 per cent of road deaths but "most motorists do the right thing" as "75 per cent of drivers haven't had any demerit points over the past three years".
