Heads up NT

Unlimited speeds in NT axed
November 2, 2006 - 6:22PM
The Age

For drivers on Northern Territory roads, the days of hitting the accelerator and forgetting the speedometer are over.

Clare Martin's Labor government today announced it would introduce a 110kph speed limit on all open roads, following the release of damning statistics by an expert taskforce.

The NT is the only place in Australia, and one of the few places left in the world, which has no speed limits and no demerit points, introduced in most Australian states in 1969.

But now the territory will toe the line.

Along with speed limits, the government will introduce a demerit system, heftier fines, a gradual roll-out of red light cameras and a greater police presence.
A good mate will bail you out of jail, a true mate will be sitting in the cell next to you saying "Damn, we fucked up!!!"

Those "Damning" statistics were that for every 100 drivers, They could make over $500 revenue in speeding fines...

i spose going from unlimited speed to a limit is a little different.

but our HIGHEST speed in tassie 110, which i spose isn't all that much different! but still its higher!!
wat happens if u guys get caught doing over 50 if u don't have demerit points!

Well they are rolling out demerits too. i think its a total wrought, then again getting your federal money is a substantial carrot to be dangled over their head to conform to the other do gooder states, they did so well to hold out for this long.

If anything I can imagine a rise in fatalities with people sticking to the limits and getting shit bored and nodding off asleep at the wheel.

regarding the statistics they quoted, you can manipulate statistics to say fucking ANYTHING you want, its shit, utter frickin shit.

And i cant imagine any changes for the better in any state anytime soon, given how successfull a revenue raiser its been in other states and that there is such a voracious "wont somebody think of the children" mindset.

also as my missus said last night, imagine the poor truckies with their road trains, no more shooting up to 140-160 along those straights for them, which would really screw things up for delivery time & ironically safety due to fatigue.

The 130 speed limit is nothing man, i really dont know why you are bitching...

It doesn't ruin the litchfield or scenic route run so i dont know why it is a big deal. Sure it stuffs up the 2.5 hour drives to katherine but who cares... Bring on the demerit points and higher fines too, im sick of dickheads on our roads. I'm not saying im an angel either, but i usually keep my shennanigans to the track.

Also that sig of yours is pathetic, you obviously have no fkn idea mate.
