2007 Versys

When tuning the 649 cm³ Parallel Twin engine of the new Kawasaki Versys, the engineers' first priority was to find throttle response that balanced a powerful feeling and a quick-revving character. To optimise performance for everyday riding, care was taken to maximise low-mid range torque.

* Intake and exhaust cams with short operating angles move the torque curve toward the lower end of the rpm range.

* To achieve smooth power and torque curves, the exhaust system makes use of a balance tube.

* Fuel injection settings for the Versys were selected primarily to deliver a strong powerful feeling when the throttle is opened.

* Performance and feel were optimised for the mid-range (3,000-6,000 rpm).

The above settings result in a performance that favours speeds most used in everyday riding: the range in and around 50-75 mph.

I reckon the bike looks awesome.......except for the Pig Snout headlight!!! WTF had the designers been on when they came up with that one?

See, this is where i reckon the manufacturers have it wrong. In order to encourage us to ride more practical bikes like that, they need to build them with 1.4 litre 250hp motors in them!!!!

Does look a bit ugly - but it's on par with other dual-sports, IMO. :P

They deliver lesser power as compared to the specs of the ER-6, so I have no idea why do they need to produce this bike.

Because the French, Germans and other Europeans will buy them by the containerfull.

Dualsport commuters outsell sportsbikes in mainland Europe.

FWIW, I'd be imprssed with this thing if Kwak offered it with a plastic tank, wire spoke wheels and a muffler which didn't double as a bashplate so it could do some serious dirt work.

Of all the holes in the Kawasaki model lineup, the absence of a competitive dualsport is the biggest.
