And the race was on!

Post by kempy »

Coming home today, went and filled up at BP. Came out, bout 100m down the road got stopped at a red light. Pulled up next to a gun metal grey 180SX, big zorst, lowered, big turbo, you know the kind. Knew he'd try to drag me.

Though, he did the whole stupid light anticipiation thing (which always makes people slower off the line anyway), and as such I didn't go flying off the line, just did my normal take off as I always would. Think I should make a note here, this is the first time I've ever actually raced someone. I'm sure we've all had countless (and i mean Countless!) occasions when people have tried to race us, and I never bothered, just let them take off and have a carry on, revving the shit out of their cars whilst not racing anyone.

So anyway, I've gone through first, changed to 2nd (now on about 4,000rpm) and hes nailed it. Look across as I always do to sort of say "pffft, what the hell are you doin, i'm not even trying!". And for some reason I thought I'd give him a run for his money. So I roll on. Stay about flat even, 5K comes up, the induction begins to suck, 6K sees the start of "sporty range" (though during sport riding, I'm usually always above 7K). And boom, the 7R rips out a 20m lead. I just held the throttle flat stick, changed at about 10,500rpm and checked my mirrors again, i've left him for dead.

I've just let it slow down and changed through the gears, he comes past, big grin on his face and gives me a wave. Give him the nod and off he went.

So yeah, anyone else raced cars before? And what about properly (both nailing it at the light)?

I raced an Impreza once at a set of lights with two lanes turning right. I was in the leftmost lane so had further to go. We were even around the corner then I totally blew him away when we straightened up. The main reason I did it was he pissed me off coming up to the lights by straddling the line for the two lanes till the last minute...he was trying to get me going

Not much point really, they just dont stand a chance at all.
Now racing people in my car (that I sadly no longer own) was a different story, I did a bit of that, it was fun, still not many people could keep up.

late one enening on lytwych road coming into the city , just past the emergency training center.
i had the pleasure to get caught between two clowns at a set of lights. when they went green these guys gunned it, i took of reasonably smartly and the guy on the gutter side lost it during a gear change, slid sideways up the gutter and ended up on his side with his roof resting against a light pole.
i slowed right down , did a uturn, went back to see if i could help & this idiot climbs out of his car , through to window (now pointing up) then pulls a baby out before a girl climbs out.

he decided to play silly buggers late at night @ midnight in car with a baby onboard.

it shocked the shit out of me!!!

i try too be a little more careful nowdays

you just never know

i got my brother to jump in my car and gun it against my gpx 250 to see how it went and i think he beat me by about half a car length.

one time at caroline springs traffic lights going towards melton, a VH (V8)pulled up next to me, and off we went until about 150km/h, i was ahead by far then decided to back off. He just kept going until i couldnt see him anymore.

on a big bike most of the time u know u have it in the bag.

For some reason, every idiot in this town thinks they have a chance...

Maybe it is the screen, or maybe it is the Gearsack bag on the rear rack. Or maybe it is just that the ER-5 doesn't look too flash, but I have had run of the mill Falcadores, teenagers in old crappy Corollas, Silvias (not even turbo'd!! Idiots) etc have a go. Sometimes I give them a bit of an ego boost and hold the revs at around 4k...let them get a length ahead before ripping on the throttle...and a quick change up to second...bye bye...

I am not a particularily talented rider as of yet, but even the ER puts them in their place. I can honestly say that the only time they beat me, is when I let them...usually because already I saw the police with the radar gun 5 minutes ago...hehehe...

its too easy on the 9, i prefer to let them get the jump and then go past on the back wheel, its sort of like the bikes way of giving his car the bird.

some guy in a v8 dunnydoor ute even tried to drag the mighty zeph off the lights, what a wombat.

although the funnyist one i can remember was when a guy in a monaro with the numberplate 300 HSV tried to drag the 9, i wasnt even ready for it and just rolled it on, nice 100m wheelie and see you later.....backed off and he's gone FLYING past about 15 seconds later........no second prises sunshine....

havent seen tim loose a traffic light gp to anyone on the zeph, its a hoot and never fails to win the race the the other side of the intersection.

Nothin major just usually launch it and then click into 2nd then back off turn around and wave them up to me. Even funnier when a harley tries to give you a drag at the lights.

I actually try and keep rolling in first at the lights and avoid actually stopping as much as I can. It is quite satisfying to just roll beside the car in the next lane then just let her rip...

Hmmmmm....
maybe if we get a really nice day for a Vic ride, later in the summer, I might convince the old fart to come along for a bit in his t-bucket. Many of you will loose.
If it, and my 7 hook properly at the same time, the 7 gets beaten to 200 every time.
It is far better to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even if chequered with failure, than to take rank with those who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, as they live in grey twilight that knows no victory nor defeat.

Fark you bombadore man.
I did a Blade *cough* baby, in my XR6T. I think most cars just do it for a stir, to make you nail it. I do agree though, a lot get cut and the situation can get scary.
I did an M5 Beema from the lights on Nepean Hwy at Southland. On the Back wheel through first, into second, dropped down into third and backed off. He passed me after I backed off (15 sec later) at warp speed and kept going.
A mate kept stirring me and stirred me, that his XY would nail my 7. So one day I said fark it, come on lets go. Up to quarry Rd lined them up, he takes off side ways, I take off pass him on the back wheel (power mono) click it into second, hit nuetral and still nailed him by heaps. Heheheh, we never had that conversation again. He is rebuilding another XY which is heaps quicker (prob -/+10sec car) so i'm sure the conversation will come up again, with the same result.

Never really had anyone want to race me on the tiller. I'm sure though most would get left behind (cars that is).

Had a VT SS conformadore race me on the melton highway on my two fiddy once at the lights, had a bike length on them until I hit about ninety, then they passed me.
