take a 2002 ZX7 and a 2002 Gixxer750...for example
not a 06 gixxer

imho
the last 7r was a better allround bike than the Suzi
better on the road and on the track...
best front end in the business
the Spewzuki of that era was manic
(the current model bike is better)
and I still can't work out why Kawasaki dropped
the 750 after such a long history of great 750 fours
yeah...600s were the 'in' thing at the time
but a 750 is such a nice size..
my 2c
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!
idk i thats true. idk i have a 98 zx7r and love it but id give anything for it to lose a few lbs. i wish it was lighter. but i gotta love the 750 class 4 sure

The 7 is certainly the best looking, and yes it has a solid feel to the front end, as a lot of Kawasaki's from that era had. But if you talk year for year ie 1996 ZX7R P1 versus 1996 GSXR750 T, In standard form, I would envisage at least a second a lap better time from the GSXR. It is lighter, has more power, tighter steering geometry and a shorter wheelbase. Naturally it's going to lap a track faster.
On the road however, you would find my arse crack settling into the seat of the 7R more than the Gixxer. It has more bottom end and midrange, and a front end just made for bumpy Oz roads. unflappable!! It also looks hot, even today.
If we were to compare the last of the 7R's with a K2 750, I would jump on the Suzy everytime unfortunately. It's just a lot later technology. the 7R remained very static in it's model life, more so than the L's!!! So by 2002, the 7R was a dinosaur!

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

I love my ZX7R but I HAVE to agree with Strika (DAMN IT)
Mind U having said that if we are talking about some SCUM on a SPEWZUKI passing MY 7 things may be a little different.
(sure mate)
And though it was covered above, it is SO unfair to judge ANY old bike against ANY modern bike. 5 years of technology is just too much advantage.

Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD
ya i understand. see the thing is also i love kawasaki motor company but was wondering figured in a few yrs id be getting new bike and as of now not sure stay with 750 class and go gsxr or up it zx10

Exactly! I have no doubt the Gixxar would beat the old zx7 back to back, with the same rider + tyres combo, around the track.Strika wrote:On the road however, you would find my arse crack settling into the seat of the 7R more than the Gixxer. However on a typically crappy aussie road the tables may be turned. Case in point - on a fairly ordinary road on the zx7 I can get out of site in front a mate on his 05 R1. He is a bloody good rider - he does 1m49s at the Creek on his bike and im flat out trying to get consistent 1m55s on the zx7. On this type of road the flighty nature of a lighter and quicker steering bike doesnt allow him to attack corners in the same way I can on the zx7.
So to sum up - yeah a gixxar 750 will probably be quicker around the track, but the added weight of the zx7 seems to be not as disturbed by bumps of roads and hence makes riding the roads less of an effort and instil more confidence - You still may not be quicker but will be on something far more confidence inspiring.
Hope that adds to the equation.

A mate of mine has a 1998 gixxer 750 and i owe a 1997 zx7r and he goes a bit quicker cos the gixxer is lighter and its more responsive cos of the fuel injection.
I have run him from a set of lights and we were on par until my front wanted to lift and i backed off. On the twisties i can keep on his tail no problem and vise versa.
He's not the quickest and neither am i.
On a slow/meduim rider capacity, its hard to tell.
I still reckon i can carve him up cos i ride and kwaka
