THE NAKED TRUTH !!!

Post by Strika »

I had a good day today, as working days go. An early start at 5.30 in the office to get some stuff done and make some time for a few err personal errands in the afternoon. I finished work about 3.30 and hopped in the car and journied up to Roxburgh Pk to pick up a massive FPV banner that a mate of mine in Perth has bought off ebay, then down to have a look at a couple of bikes.

The first was a 1999 model and it had 45k and a bit of damage, but the guy wouldn't shift to where I felt comfortable paying, so I trundled off to have a look at another.

This one was a late 00, with 50k. A few more K's than I want, but this one was a one owner with a fully documented K Dealers service history. Black in colour, and in the end he let it go at a fair price. I have to put two tyres on it to get a roadie and thats it. It really is immaculate. the guy who owns it reminds me of Photo Mike a little, In as far as, he gets 18,000 klms out of a rear tyre, and has still got 70% of the original....yes the original, brake pads left.

Apart from a little tank scuffing where the riders leathers touch there is barely a mark on it. All the underside of it was immaculate, and the bike has never been dropped, not even a little driveway slip.

I am almost a little reluctant to mod this thing it has been so well looked after. The seller reminded me of a good mate who keeps his stuff like that, and barely uses it in anger. Poor thing is going to cop it once I get hold of it. Here's a pic to keep you all happy.

Ill PM ya once I have worked out what to do with it. BTW, all the body work is immaculate. And I mean Immaculate. Faark, I am even feeling guilty about stripping it. Wait till you see it, won't believe it has 50k on it!

I almost pissed myself laughing when he said he gets 18k out of a rear tyre, then nearly fell over when he told me the pads were original! Not even a lip on the front discs!!!

Everyone should be able to buy a second hand bike of a guy like this. It was a pleasure to crawl all over it, and not end up covered in shit like you do with some guys bikes (like mine)

Well, As money has changed hands this time I can confidently say

" Gotta love the 9"

Thanks.

That's what buying my ZZR was like a few years back. I think I put more dirt on it looking at it than had ever been allowed to settle on it - it had never even been ridden in the rain. Now's a different story.

Looks/sounds like a real good bike. Change those 18000km old tyres and have a good blat.

Congrats dude!

Mate don't feel too bad about cutting it up. I sold a One-owner (well before me anyway) very nicely looked after VG valiant sedan to my brother a long time ago. As soon as he found time he cut a hole in the floor pan with a Drill, yes that's right a fucking drill (we didn't have an angle grinder at the time...) to accomodate the shifter of the 4spd on the back of the 265 Hemi that he put in it. The diff was cig-locked the next week, and fun was had. What was a nice original Valiant quickly became one of the fastest yet bodgiest street cars around in the little town we were living in at the time....

He ended up needing to get rid of it after I had left town. So after bush-thrashing it as hard as he could (bouncing it off trees etc., including me hitting a dead horse in once just before I left  ) he decided to stick a brick on the accelerator and stand back. After revving extremely hard for many minutes nothing was happening, so he switches it off, drops the water and starts it again. Same deal, nothing but sweet crisp stupidly high revs. So off it goes again, and out comes the oil. This time when he started it it revs for a while, then starts dying, then revs really hard for a little while before finally going bang in a BIG way. The crank is found broken in half and much other damage done, and he is satisfied. This from a motor that was orignally pulled from a wreck, some bits bolted on, and thrown in the car with the oil etc. it came with!

Er, anyway, where was I?

Oh yeah get stuck into that 9 man, it will make a top streetfighter. Just keep the oil up to it!

Oh and I reckon flat (drag) bars look and feel better than moto-x bars.

Don't tell me 9's are like yamaha 1000's and use oil????

Have you tried Fast Fifty bars. That is what I ended up with on the Hornet and they were just sensational. High enough to not be too hunched and enough of a sweep to be comfy on the road. Damn near perfect they were.

Ist thing I will do is put some tyres on it and get it regd. Then I will go for a ceremonial thrashing before I strip it and start work.

I am going to start seriously hunting around for some bits for it now. Like the headlight, and also start surfing to see what I may use as instruments. Ideally I would love some chrome retro looking gauges like something off a late 60's or early 70's superbike.

The only real issue i can see is what to do with the ram air ducts. It's a tricky one, as they tend not to run very well without them. I wonder what they did to get the Judge working properly, that's if it does carb OK, a lot of those show bikes barely run!

Plus once you remove them, making the holes in the frame look neat is difficult. Thats the only real negaives I have seen on a lot of the 9 fighters I have seen. Maybe something custome done in carbon fibre would look nice. If I go black, I could match it with black custome carbon ducts which integrate into the headlight somehow.

Hey Diesel!!! You can draw can't you??? How bout some artistic impressions???? :)

Some 2.5 inch tubing coming off a turbo compressor would look great in the ram air slots! :P
