Hey all, noob from syd here

Post by bennyn »

I just got myself what was the score of the century.

its a 1997 complianced GPX250 (but says somethin of 1987 on the compliance plate too) so im not sure what yr it is.

It has 35,000km on the clock, wasnt starting, tank rusted inside a bit and just generally neglected.

Within 2 hrs (ok i lied, 3 hours) of gettin it back to my mates place we had the carbies off, float bowls out, cleaned it up.

Cleaned the filters in the fuel tank tap, and cleaned the guts of the carby out. cleaned the tank, and she runs! No knocking audible (from what i can hear),

Anyways it appears to be pissin a bit of oil or water from near the water pump, and only when the motor is running. Any suggestions what it could be? it was dark and we didnt take any panels off to inspect as yet.

Also does anyone have a service manual for the bike online. Couldnt find one as yet.

Bout myself, Im a 20yr old uni student, sydney sider, cage driver :) (i may have seen the light).

Regards all
Ben

My mate says its spraying oil.

Only when engine runs, coming from near the waterpump.

He reckons its the shaft seal for the waterpump drive shaft (i duno if i explained it well or not)

Anybody got pix, info or a service manual on this?

Are the shaft seals hard to get at? from the inside of the crank case or the outside?
