in a nutshell its just looking at the big picture.
The difference between weather and climate is time. Weather is conditions of the atmosphere over a short period of time, and climate is how the atmosphere behaves over relatively long periods of time.
For example, after looking at rain gauge data you can tell if during a summer, an area was drier than average. Even though the types of weather experienced may be the same, if it continues to produce averages different to previous results over the course of many summers, then it could be an indicator of change in the climate.
