My cams will most likely need a regrind. They were fixed when pitting was an issue, but the grind from then is starting to wear off.

My u-beaut mechanic tells me that the valve clearances are getting looser, instead of the expected tighter.
However, when I have everything apart, I will measure them and see if they are in within specs.

Be interested in seeing how that goes. Going to get mine reground. Kawasaki has offered to fix them but I wouldn't trust local dealer with a bicycle. Probably do it myself, and wear the $530 reground cost. Will approach Kawasaki to pay but they probably say no. Bought 3 brand new Kawasakis so far- 2 have had pitted cams- ZZR1200 and ZRX1200r....not a good result. Wonder what the cams are like in my ER6n, bought new....

Looser clearances can be carbon build up on the valve seats too

Well, Kawi (Mack1, Perth) fixed my cams, paid for it, and gave me a set of cam followers as well. This was for the ZRX and the ZZR. They sent the cams East to get done.

But I'll check out your carbon deposit idea as well. Probably not soon, as I have other things to do ...

Well, I have just had a compression test done, and cylinders 1, 3 and 4 measure 190 psi. Cylinder 2 measures 180 psi.
Allowable range is 132 to 203 psi. So rings and bore is not an issue.

Next is to take the head off and get it cleaned up, valves lapped, new valve stem seals. Soon.

That sounds like good news (unless you were really hoping to go for the 1224 kit

). Hopefully with new gaskets and seals in the top end your oil issue gets sorted

Head job should be cheapish too. That's great news! If you were really keen you could just put valve seals on using either the rope trick or compressed air.
