Re: Anybody here ride MTB's?
Yeah, I always laugh at people riding the m7 on their million dollar carbon bikes.
Umm, there's a bike track with hills right next to it. And you'd get fitter riding a heavy one...
Mind you I can't talk, as I'm doing neither.

Thats my theory Wattie. And its always fun passing road bikes along that path next to the M7 on my mountain bike. Its good hilly too! I sold my roadbike as it didnt like the gutter bashing around my place with my fat arse aboard!!!

Re: Anybody here ride MTB's?
if you are definatly looking at dual sus bikes Trek has a number of features that cannot be duplicated by other brands.firstly the Gary fisher geometry and steering system.Secondly Active braking, simply put whilst under brakes and going over ruts the rear wheel will still trail through the bumps and the rear suspension will not stiffen up which is what most other brands will do this is due to design and pivot points and lincages.also they actually have a full time fox tech on staff and all rear suspension is tuned specifically for Trek.for example some models actually have a dual air chamber which is not standard which means when you hit the big bumnps the pressure is distributed into both chambers which allows it to recover and respond faster than a standard shock, anyway all this info is available on treks web site.

Re: Anybody here ride MTB's?
It is really all about time management. Forget the bike, you will ride it twice and park it, just like your mudderbikes cause you are too busy.Disco wrote:After gaining nearly 20kg's in the last 12 months I need to get fit so I can fit into my leathers for track days....
Am going to look at a Trek EX5 2012 that a store has on special tomorrow any feedback or advice before I take the plung?...I used to race MTB's 15 years ago....It's not too late is it
Just like you are too busy to eat properly..
You gained 20kg in 12 months cause of what you put into you mouth. You can lose 20kg by not putting it in your mouth, it just takes discipline and will power to stop eating what's quick and easy cause you are too busy to eat properly ie: takeaways, Macca's etc...
Spend half the time you would have spent in lycra risking your life on the road, prepare meals of fruit, salads, vegies and protein meat. Cut your usual 3 meals a day down and eat 5 or 6 SMALL serves each day and try to walk around 30 minutes or more each day if you can. You don't need to make time for the walk, just park the car further away from where you need to be and grab a 10 minute walk here and there...... 3 times a day, your sorted for 30 minutes....
If you buy the bike, I reckon it will start gathering dust in a week or two, because you don't have time to ride it

Way to jump on the bandwagon smithy
What ever you do disco, after about 3 or 4 weeks it will become habit, and once your at that stage, hopefully you'll see improvements.

Good luck with the bike ,classic newby mistake looking at the group set instead of the package,My classic example I say to customers is you can put the wheels of a BMW on a Hiundi but it will still drive like a hiundi.Enjoy your rideDisco wrote:I better put a sheet over it thensmithy5 wrote:

OK Mal and anyone else with an opinion. I came close to buying a Giant Anthem 3 the other day but I walked away and had a think.

Anyways today i managed to do some good trails out the back of Hornsby with a work mate. It is a properly set out MTB track that has a good section of climbs, down hill , berms and drops. ANyways I demo's a Specialized Eduro 2012 (3K worth) and a Trek Superfly Pro 29er (4K worth) twice on both legs and depsite having a ball I had to say I couldnt go past the Trek. It was much much better for all terrain as long as the drops werent to big.

So that being said what are peoples thoughts on this one

Re: Anybody here ride MTB's?
Go with the al 100 elite, the pro in my opinion is not worth the extra bucks,i doubt you will ride the wheels of either of these ,and yep the giant is not even in the race unless you want to come last. With the dollar bikes are not getting cheaper especially good ones.Since the release of new models. Then when you do take Disco for a ride with his new ScottBlurr wrote:OK Mal and anyone else with an opinion.
