too easy.

it seems sump plugs get gorilla-ed to often. had a rf900 with a stripped sump plug holes, several zzr250 with chewed ones (so chewed from vice grips that i had to easy out them out), 3 xv750 viragos with stripped sump plugs (yep, the bolt was stripped) meaning it was hammered in!

Im gonna order a new gasket and a get an alloy sump bolt.
Fairngs are back on. Race glass is quick to fit.
Ill fill it with oil at 5ish tommorow. Let it run for 20 minutes or so with the BIG
oil pan underneath it. Inspect for leaks. If its not leaking then great. If it is.
Then ill be offloading a trackday to some lucky bastard. REAL CHEAP.
have I missed anything?

offloading at a track day? sweet deal for the buyer. worst case scenario it'll cost them $150 for a new pan and they are up for an awesome deal. Seriously though, if the helicoil doesn't hold then there are other options available, you don't need to resort to dumping the bike at a song to someone else at a trackday.

I didn't mean sell the bike. I meant sell the trackday.

Only way to go really, if u couldnt get a good from the wreckers.
Wasnt sure about the hellecoil thing?? things like that i dont trust.
nothing worse than worring about it when on track, and nothing worse than having it leak or worse when u arrive at turn 1 or any corner really.

i wouldnt worry about helicoiling, they use it on full alooy blocks in the head bolt holes and other critical load areas. If it was an issue, Keith Black, Rodeck, Offenhauser, Costworth, Illmor would have either discovered it or fixed it or have found sopmething oui by now.

PS on alloy blocks and heads, early magna alloy blocks proved to be porous because of shitty quality control, so mitsubishi in adelade developed a pressure infusing system with a fancy polymer, a process that is now used world wide allowing cheaper alloy to be used in engines.

Sooooooooo, before I bolt all of this on, should I clean the sump?
or will it be fine to bolt on and whatever maybe on the new sump can mix with the oil

I'd take it as an opportunity to give it a once-over scrub with degreaser, i mean seriously when is it going to be this easy again to clean it up?
