You can't get these cut like normal keys, as they have a chip in the key handle to match the ignition barrell/immobiliser ? Thats why you *don't* lose the Red key, or you are up for a complete new ECU and ignition barrell with new keys all round.........it costs a f'n fortune !!!
I know. To get a new one, you must supply your kwaka dealer with your red one so he can get one made.
i just went through gettin a spare key for my bike....
very annoying...
pretty much, you give them details of your bike, and ownership, then they can order in the spare key for you. then once it has arrived, you need to get it cut (simply done at any locksmith). then you need to take both the red and new key, and the bike to any kawa dealer, where they use a key registration tool connected to the battery i belieive, and perform a combination of turns with the red key, then the spare key to learn...
PS: to reiterate what everyone has said...... dont lose the red key....
I heard there was a Dick Smith Resistor option that fixed this drama anyone hear about it or was someone blowing smoke up my bum ?.

The procedure for a yamaha is the red key is used to clear the key transponder code of the black keys from the immoboiliser (it only stores 2 numbers) If you get a new key (or lose a key) you use the red key to reset the immoboiliser then you insert each black key to register them with the immoboiliser. Kawasaki is probably similar.

Thats how you get around the ignition immobiliser for the 03-04 ZX6R, the ECU needs to see that 100 ohm resistor in the ingnition block, or from radio shack where my race bike is concerened.
With all this talk of master keys for the newer stuff i think Kawasaki have done away with the resistor.
