they can only be seen as revenue raisers
Whilst I don't necessarily agree with speed cameras, I do agree with having speed and red light cameras at major intersections.
Jase
no argument from me re redlight and/or speed cameras at intersections

having had 2, 3 or more close calls PER YEAR
on the bike or in the car from idiots who decide
that RED MEANS 'GO FASTER' THRU AN INTERSECTION
I fully support them
but
speed cameras at the bottom of a hill (in Vic we have lots)
or on long stretches of divided freeway..are revenue raisers imho

cheers
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

Speed cameras I can live with (ya get to memorise where they are  )

Its the Vic traffic police, dressed in camouflage gear hiding with a radar gun in the bushes in the centre of the road that pisses me off.

You can see that look in there eye when they're in high speed pursuit ( the one that wishes the radar gun was a death ray)
I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it.

Now I know you probably have a shit load of typing to do, or you probably thought it was going to be a nice cruisey shift hanging around the coffee shop, but that's just stiff shit. A message has come down from the top to get out there and fly the flag."

Coppers:
"For fucks sake. This is bullshit."

If any of these boys had ever sat in on a shift briefing Jase, they would understand this perfectly........

aardvark wrote:So, the coppers cruise up the black spur and the conversation in the car possibly goes like this:
1: "Mate, can you be bothered doing this shit today?"
2: "Nope."
1: "Well, I'm sure as shit not defecting any bikes or handing out any fines today. It's a beautiful day, and if I had it off, I'd be up here for a ride myself."
2: "Yep, let's just stop a few bikes, have a chat to them and go home. If anyone's doing something totally stupid, then maybe we'll do something about it."
Our local coppers are *often* like this, in fact I can personally vouch for a particularly *young* and *understanding* bike copper who had the joy of radaring 3 Stooges a couple of weekends ago........about 130+.......we got a 'talking to', and a 'see you later....'. Thankyou Constable :D

that is patently ridiculous.

Generally, if you act like a complete turd when pulled over, that is exactly how you will be treated. I have managed to *bullshit* (ie be polite, have your licence ready, be happy through gritted teeth etc) on *many* occasions  , it has not always worked, but the % is in my favour...

Well I really cannot see what you are all worried about. I was up there today with Photomike and Smek and we didn't even see one.

And just quietly, although I don't have any proof, I reckon one of them two was speeding down one of the straights today. As I said, I don't have any solid proof, just a sneaky suspicion.

I reckon its data collection. They are propably just trying to see who rides there and were are they from, what do they ride, are they local, etc..

Cops are nothing but secretaries anyway these days.

The lady in the lolly shop told me they had police in from Seymour, so maybe they were on a training day, or a busmans holiday. Either way, they can take all the details they like. I've never been arrested, have no criminal record and nothing to hide.

From my experience.. they take the details and run them when they get back to the cop shop...

had it happen to me.. otherwise they have to radio and get a check on everybike.. this way they got your details and they know what bike you were riding.. so if it's stolen you can guarentee you'll get a knock on your door..

Good news spreads pretty quick hey. They've achieved exactly what they set out to do.
A lot of discussion on this forum, members here from other forums. Are a lot of bikes going to go up there and be idiots, i think not. Are a lot of people going to give the place a miss, you bet.

Wasn't there a crack down on the GOR too?

These roads are better mid week, or out of tourist season anyway. Ther'es plenty of good roads, that aren't attracting the close attention. 8)

how do you think my mate felt back in 1985 - He had just bought a brand-spankers GSX-R750, it was an *awesome* bike back then, he got booked by a bike copper at 11.00am one Saturday morning, doing a wheelie. That afternoon, coming through the city, he popped another wheelie at a set of lights........and who should be just up the road ????

Same copper, same bike, same result. he was spewin' - we all laughed our bags out, he was a wheelstand king, had done *hundreds* on his old GSX1100 and never been booked once !!!!!

He still spews about that copper to this day.........and he still does wheelstands everywhere

You're right. My bad. I thought you were wrong but it turns out they don't need to give a reason if you're operating a vehical.

Posting link for curiosities sake anyway. http://www.legalaid.vic.gov.au/main1.cf ... pageid=529 :)

Ahh... but we were NOT operating a vehicle... We were parked and standing on the footpath...
The world is round. It has no point.
