Pomgolia To Get a Traffic-Tracking System
Oh yeah, and with 'leaching johnny' not getting as much from speeding tickets since the petrol price surge you can bet he will be pushing to get this set up everywhere that he can. (If he hasn't done so already).

Well, how far do you know?chalkbored wrote:They were doing testing on it 2-3 years ago, and they had plod attached to them.
Far as I know the system is, or is soon to become, active.
What's your source on this? I ask because this is the first I've ever heard of it.
How's it work? One cop car, with both the camera and the transmitter through which to query the Urban Services database once the OCR results come through? Two cars, one with the OCR system, another pulling vehicles over a couple of hundred metres down the road? A camouflaged box in the bushes.
There sure as hell aren't any gantries of any kind over any Canberra arterials...

The funny thing is, if you've done nothing wrong, then you've nothing to complain about!

I am sure that is exactly what the young lass thought, when her Datto 120Y was clocked at 147kmh on the Burwood Highway last year ..........aardvark wrote:The funny thing is, if you've done nothing wrong, then you've nothing to complain about!
subsequent testing showed that her 120Y heap of shit was barely capable of 124? kmh...........she maintained that at no time did her speed exceed 100kmh.......speeding fine was dismissed on appeal.......
and what about that Snowgum that was clocked at 88 in a 60 zone near Dandenong, on the Princes Highway ????????? or the Telecom box on Springvale Road ??????
Speed detection devices are not infallible. They make mistakes, and honest people who do nothing wrong, but still get booked ( and it happens far too regularly to be dismissed willy-nilly), have every reason to get the shits with being booked..........
rant over.

Heh you up for a fang tomorrow arvo, do a loop around the Cotter ?
...ride leaving BP Kingston 8:30am on Sunday, as usual, though, and don't forget the Four Passes ride for weekend after next that I posted.
Now that Mick's pointed out the proposed Saturday date clashes with the Toy Run, I'd be prepared to change the ride over to Sunday if enough people show interest.

True, and the circumstances you point out are all arguments for my favourite motto!Gosling1 wrote:Speed detection devices are not infallible. "You can't protect humanity from stupidity."

Common sense should have prevailed in these matters, but clearly didn't. That's why I'm partially against the use of speed cameras and all for more coppers hiding in the bushes. I know I like hiding in the... oh, sorry, off topic.

Really? Cameras plugged into OCR which read rego plates and, in realtime, query multiple remote databases for info about both the car they just "saw" and the person most likely to be behind the wheel?aardvark wrote:We have this system up and running in SA.I-K wrote:Well, how far do you know?chalkbored wrote:They were doing testing on it 2-3 years ago, and they had plod attached to them.
