I have had the GPx up to around 11600-11700 in top gear*
getting a tow from Dan down the front straight at PI (track day of course)
the speedo on the GPx said about 255
(not game to take the eyes off the track for too long)
Dan reckoned his speedo said 260ish
so
I reckon somewhere around there

which btw is pretty good
I have the TW mag with the original road test of the GPx when new
they got it to just over 250

*for the track day, I swapped the rear sprocket for one with one tooth less than normal

I am happy with that, coz its pretty good for a 17yo bike
with skinny tyres

and 250 is fast enuff on 2 wheels for an ol'bloke like me

Speed kills, you're all irresponsible. Go and buy mopeds :)

Seems that the GPZ900R is a bit of a favourite in this thread... given the effortless aceleration available at legal speeds I would imagine it would demolish the 200km/h mark in style.

hehe, some others i know are going to go to eastern creek drags for pure shits & giggles next week. I'm tempted to go just for the sheer HELL of it & see what the puppy can do.

Might see if i can squeeze in a tune beforehand too ;-).

If they're using the kero make sure you keep the rear spinning as you pull up to the line. Sounds obvious, but a mistake I make in my hurry to get to the line. Was quite amusing giving it nines off the line and going sideways

DO IT

btw
I did mine when i first got it
from memory (never kept the timeslip from Calder)
best of 11 point sumfing seconds at 120 or 130 mph sumfing
they still do speed in MPH....

and DON'T do what I did on the first run
10,000 rpm and dropped the clutch
SMOKEARAMA and NO progress (what happens with a 140 section tyre)
even with the traction stuff on the ground

around 5-6000 is better at the 'tree
the problem then is keeping the front on the ground
LEAN FORWARD
and have fun.......

cheers

It's funny you should mention that but I actually went out to race at Willowbank on Wednesday night after work. Unfortunately it got rained out ... shame it's an hour away and it was only wet for the last 5 minutes of the trip :(

The drags are good for a laugh but unfortunately 400m just isn't enough! Even quick bikes with competent riders struggle to get too much more than 200km/h at the drags.... it needs to be a half mile instead :)

 these speeds are done on a test track
on the zzr600 i've seen 235kph indicated....pretty steady at that speed
on the zx7r i've had her up to 260kph indicated and that was fuggin scary with a bit of cross wind. At QR i had her upto 210kph on the main straight and 190kph on the back before i shit myself, i think that i'd be a little faster now as that was after i only had the bike for three months.

I try to be as sensible as i can but every time i go out of town on a run i like to run the bike upto 200+ just to let them know who is boss

its not the speed that will kill rather the deceleration trauma at the end

I know what you mean. I heard of a friend of a friend, who had a friend  Who saw 280 on the speedo of a 2005 ZX636. And i would agree with the magazines conclusion of about 260 real. Apparently

I generally see 235-236 indicated, but have hit 245 indicated once but braking for the corner was HARD & got a bad line into turn 3, ie not good racing line.

In a top-speed test with a 03 GSXR6, my 2000 ZX6R topped-out at 270 (indicated) which was a couple of K's more than the GSXR could manage. 8)

UPDATE

I saw 268kph indicated today(& maybe more to go?) & would have had the pics/video to back it up, but I thought I pushed record on the vid cam, but got in from the track session it was blank DAMN IT!!
That was only slightly crouched as the camera was tapped to the tank & couldn't get down behind the screen much. (Windy I tell ya)

Was going to have footage of 1,2,3,4,5 & 6th on rev limiter & see what speeds it indicates but the stupid operater didn't check it was working.

This was done on a Private racetrack as doing something stupid like this on the road would of course be Illegal & wrong & I would never ever do something like that!
being on the internet I may not have a base in reality

I've had the needle pointing a the 300kph mark a few times, but a Britsh mag measured my models top speed at ~278kph. :)

Well, all I can say is that I wasn't doing nearly 190kph down Richmond road at about 9.30 this morning, because that would be an irresponsible thing to do when you are on your way to work on a Sunday morning and the sun is shining and the road is dry and quiet.
I don't condone doing speeds of 200kph anywhere, at all officer.
Wheelies officer, what are they?(oh, that's a different topic).
Nah, I didn't give her a good spankin on the way to work, cus I had to go in and organise guys on my day off
Just couldn't have a ride today
