Work Drama's

Post by icebreaker »

Well after over 5 1/2 years at Primus I finally resigned yesterday afternoon... One would think this is a time to be excited, I've given notice and have 3 weeks to serve. And I was until I made it to the lifts to leave the building.

I was cornered by 3 head honcho's and accused :
- stealing (transferring) customer sensitive information
- having a piece of hardware connected to my PC and transferring information

Well in the end I was drilled verbally repeatedly about the consequences and asked repeatedly, and given an example of what they did 2 years ago to someone.. In the end I went from dead certain of what I had done in cleaning up my PC to shit scared and not sure..

So I showed them everything, and was 100% in the right. I was walked out of the building effectively..

Turns out the only piece of information they had that was correct was my name... The hardware issue was a load of crap, and the company (competitor) I was going to, was actually another team member that resigned yesterday...

So after all this I'm given a rest day today and spend 4 hour following up where I stand, and well I'me being paid out my 3 weeks plus leave...

And the golden clause which I love to bits is... If there is any information or gaps in knowledge that they can call me back in by appointment for me to train or assist in filling these gaps...

Gotta love that one I recon...

Anyway the stress of the past 24 hours is slowly being replaced by joy.. And I start my new job in 3 weeks, officially possibly 2 weeks if I get bored... HAHAHA as if...

Good to see you're moving to greener...and less accusing... pastures. As Smitty said $600.00 an hours seems fair....of coarse you would also ahve to charge penalty rates for evenings and weekends, which would also be the only time you would be available

It seems de rigeur in the IT industry nowadays to pull this short of sh1t. I got two legal letters hand-delivered (like a summons) after I left my last place threatening me with having nicked stuff. Turned out the goof who I "handed over to" lost the file. :?

Good luck Dan, in your (non)Primus role - I agree with Smitty: don't buy Primus as a protest

Dan, firstly. Good stuff and may you get everything you've wished for in your new job.

Secondly, many moons ago when I was in the IT industry I worked for a company called Microarts Computers and then sidestepped into their wholesale business, Chips and Bits. When they went public the two companies did a wierd kind of merger thing and became IT&E.

I got called into the managing directors office about 3 days after the merger was announced and was told they no longer needed me. They were trying to reduce overheads to make the company look better. I was given two weeks and then promptly marched out of the building. (WHAT THE???)

Anyway, I didn't give two hoots. I went on to bigger and better things, I got a huge payout, and their shares went from $1.50 when they frst floated to about 14.5c that they are now. Thats what happens when you get rid of the companies most valuable employee.

Good onya Dan.!!

Sounds like its a good place to be out of...

Did you have a witness during the accusation period... Making slanderous and accusing statements is not looked upon as good employer relations these days...$$$$$$

Dan somehow you managed to have a worse day than me. Thought today was just about the worst I've had for a very long time but I think you managed to have a shittier time. Your story reminds me of many occasions I have witnessed and even a whole lot more unpleasant. Got to just laugh it off.

Yep. This is exactly why I am turning my back on IT.

Both times I have worked for a large private company (Kleenmaid - there I've named the evil empire!! and KR Castlemaine - an even eviler empire!) I got told all sorts of crap at my 3 month "review". At KM I got told that I wasn't very friendly to users (although most people in the company called me directly for help, bypassing the help desk system, because they knew I would actually help them, and quickly) and both companies thought I wasn't "committed" enough. That is their code for 'you seem to have a problem doing 50+hours a week'. Yes, I do, I only get paid for 38.

Good luck with the new job!

Congrats on leaving such a shitty place, Dan.
That sucks that they gave you so much shit, though. I would've been so shaken up. It seems to be worse in IT than elsewhere, but many other places are doing it too.
I was (very ineffectively) marched from my job as a travel agent after resignation. And that only happened because they were rude cunts about it.

I don't expect loyalty from a company or from an employee, but obviously even a bit of common sense and human decency is too much to ask these days.

Look on the bright side. You did nothing wrong and were able to prove it. So, in effect, they just gave you a holiday, by marching you out the door early, because they still have to pay you for that time. - Oh, and make sure they do pay you, since many companies will try and get out of it.

Don't I know it.

KM had a new franchise opening in melb, and we couldn't get the computer equipement - about $50k worth because we owed money to one of our suppliers. So a $1M franchise was potentially going to be delayed...

The telling point is they have near 100% turnover every year...

not had any stuff like that happen to me. In fact when I worked for a Sports Shop I soon had enough of being called in at the last minute, (only living 5 minutes walk from them, and the fact I had a 6 month old kid made them think the "extra cash" would be welcome) I resigned. The manager was really put out and offered me a payrise :D
I turned it down. The manager transfered to a store closer to her home and another girl got a job with P&O so there were 3 of us having a joint leaving do at an "all you can eat" chinese.
Oh happy days
