I know its early days yet but bayliss looks to be doing well in practise, might score a point or two yet. :D

I sort of realise its only practice and they can use whatever tyres they like for a few laps to make up the times and valenteno is probably doing tyre testing between capuchinos. :D

Does that make nakers the fastest on a bridgestone?
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

yeah good to see rossi not come 1st for a change. and good for Hayden to get a win under his belt.

It was a quiet and clean race though, not much tustling for positions, it was pretty much follow the leader

There he goes. One of God's own prototypes. Some kind of high powered mutant never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die.

See the latest Performance Bike mag . They are talking about LCs being classics now and a great article on Freddie Spencer . Photo of Spencer chasing Crosby , he was my hero . Those guys really could ride on what would be pigs to control . They must of had huge balls .
Ummmm let me see

yeah, rossi was commenting on the dangerous sections of the laguna seca track, and then the very very dangerous sections... he didn't like it apparently
other professional commentators/analysist said that this track was a track to "equalize" riders... esp. when they don't ride on it 24/7 like they do on their home stomping grounds (european tracks in general)
-but then the Americans cleaned up... so what's that say about home field advantage? or was it the crowd?
-meh- we'll see rossi and the rest of the field back to normal at Donnington.....

AWESOME RACE THOUGH FOR NICKY AND COLLIN!!!!!

good to see something else than the usual rossi show, and how collin and nicky could each turn it up a notch when needed!! AWESOME!!

Keep in mind that Rossi was the only rider of the top 8 on the starting grid to have never ridden at Laguna Seca before.

GP at Laguna Seca

Post by Steph »

Just got back from the GP and had a great time. The highlight of my weekend was Nicky's win. Nicky is a great kid as are the rest of the family so when I saw Nicky taking Earl around the track on his victory lap, it brought tears to my eyes. He had tears in his eyes when they played the national anthem on the podium. My second highlight was meeting and having a great conversation with Jeremy Burgess at the Yamaha 50th anniversary party. I could go on and on about the racing heroes and tv stars I had a chance to spend time with but I won't bore you.
As far as Superbike goes, I'm a Mladin fan but I was happy to see Eric Bostrom pull out a win at his home track. His team really needed that win too. Josh Hayes had a mishap and took out Neil Hodgson. Josh said that Neil was pretty mad and that he felt just terrible about it. Ben Attard qualified well in Supersport and actually let a few laps before crashing out around lap 3, he's unhurt. Tommy and Roger Lee Hayden both almost pulled off wins for Kawasaki but it wasn't meant to be.
Daniel Stauffer came over for the race. Jamie had hoped to come but wasn't able to. On Sunday, I took Dan up to the world famous "corkscrew" during the first half of the Superstock race. He couldn't believe how steep it is because you just can't tell on TV. Dan also got the benefit of our hospitality suite. No standing online for food or toilets!
The vendor area was always busy. Long lines for souveniers too. According to the V.P. of Marketing, Thursday was the biggest day of souvenier sales ever at Laguna Seca. The AGV helmet guy had brought 60 helmets and by noon on Friday he had sold 20. Needless to say, he sold out and wished he had 60 more. I can't imagine the $ that changed hands last weekend.
Lowlights of the weekend were the traffic in and out of the track. We stayed until 9 p.m. on Sunday and got right out. Also, I don't know who they got to sing the American National Anthem on Sunday but it was an embarrasment to all Americans. He was terrible and then he stopped in the middle because he forgot the words. And with all the world watching.
Well that's a little sample of my GP weekend. Yes, I'll be back next year!

Hey Steph, great report. Don't suppose you've got any pics from the weekend that you feel like sharing?

Oh, and a couple of things.

When I first saw Nicky crying I thought, "What a bloody sook."
But he's such a likeable lad that my initial response lasted about 1/2 a second and I almost felt like sharing a tear with him. (ALMOST!)

Aren't American's an embarrasment to all Americans?
