03 ZX6R Lost Key :(

Post by reclinerchair »

Mmm, after a big night last Saturday, I woke up without my bike keys, house keys, cars keys etc etc.... I've just been on the phone to Whales Kawasaki, and they said I need to buy a blank key (20 bucks), and get an ignition number off the bike somewhere, then let a locksmith do the rest.

That was all easy enough until I tried to find this damn number! I was told it could be around the ignition somewhere, or near a helmet lock, or the rear seat lock. I can't find it anywhere (except a three digit number near the rear seat lock, which I've been told is not it, has to be between 4 - 6 numbers long). Anyway, another phone call, now I'm told the number may either be somewhere behind the ignition unit against the frame... otherwise, I have to take the whole ignition unit in to the locksmith.

Anyone have any ideas as to where this number could be? Or an easier bloody way to get a key. I just started taking the ignition unit out, but it seemed bloody hard once I got into it. By the looks of it the triples, handlebars all come off???

Can someone put my outta my misery before I pull the whole bike apart?!

Cheers,
Luke

Make sure he starts working on the ignition lock and not off the tank cap or helmet lock. They use less tumblers.

Get two cut

I lost the keys to my 9, just get the local dealer to call HO to verify you are the owner of the bike and they will give you the key number.

Then take the key number to the locksmith, and if there's a cute chick behind the counter hit her up.

Ooops, I mean ask to have the key cut to the code supplied.

Key numbers

I know on the GPX, of you unscrew the helmet lock and take it off, the key number is printed on the back of the helmet lock. Unfortunately, this means if it is locked, you will have to cut off the lock bar.

hmm well on the honda if u lose both keys u need a new ignition....$3k worth i believe...as i lost one key i was advised to get a spare cut off that one as theres no way to have a duplicate done at a later date (if u lose em both)
