Another Bike Hits the 4th......

Post by Gosling1 »

Once upon a time long ago, I had a dream that I had been kissed on the dick by the Cheap Bike Fairy.

Well apparently it was not a dream - or I am living the dream - or some such shit

Last week on Facebook, got a pm about a local bike. The female owner had not ridden it for a couple of years, it had been parked up under a tarp in the front yard, while she rode her other bikes. The fuel tank had sprung some leaks along the lower rear seams. These had been repaired (poorly as it turns out) - and so the bike has just languished - unloved and unridden - since May 2014.

Old mate who sent me the pm, asked if I knew anybody who might be interested - I said I would come and have a look, which I did last Friday arvo after work......he had dragged it out from under the tarp and onto the driveway. No tank fitted, one sidecover missing some mounting lugs - a few redbacks crawling around behind the bodywork   but all there.

I asked about a ball-park figure - he didn't give me one straight up. I pretty much did not need to buy this bike, but it did have some good spares for another one of the same model already in the stable......just before I left - he let me know a ballpark figure. said I would think about it over the weekend and call him Sunday arvo.

Made the call on Sunday arvo - offer was accepted. I picked it up on Monday arvo - got it running yesterday evening and took it for a ride this afternoon. Really only needed the battery charged up, some fresh juice, and a few little other jobs, as it had been running when parked up.

Everything works as it should - dash lights, brakes, everything. Feels comfy to ride but only did a short ride up a couple of streets and back ;). Tyres are almost new Avon radials, Staintune mufflers fitted and Goodrich braided lines all round.

Here is a photo taken last Friday with the tarp off - tank is not fitted, or sidecover or seats. Looks pretty grotty because it was. All clean and tidy now though ;) will add some photos shortly......

$300. Gotta be happy with that :kuda: Rego inspection next week and 3 months sticker over winter. Should be fun :D :D

well the cook reckons its just fine but I don't know how Yoda would know??

Pulled the carbies off on Sunday arvo and cleaned them out - #3 main was basically blocked solid and this is why it felt like it was only running on 3 during some short shake-down rides around the local streets on Saturday.....

Also pulled the plugs and gave them a clean - had a fair bit of water down a couple of the plug holes (from my degreasing and wash-down).

Both of these jobs seem to have fixed the hesitation and dodgy running :kuda: so I got a 7-day permit yesterday and rode the old jigger to work today. This was basically the first decent ride where I have been able to give it some oompah ;)

FMD - gave it some berries heading up onto a local freeway and once I got past 5k on the dial - it took off. Feels really nice to ride, different - heavy but the weight is carried down low and it steers really well. Has a 'big tourer' sort of feel. Have ordered a new Pirelli Sport Demon front tyre today, so once that is fitted, will find out how it goes in the corners.......

Photos to come - it looks pretty tidy now with the fairings and wheels clean and tidy. Starts instantly as well, even from cold. Gotta be happy with that :kuda: All I need to do to the motor now, is oil/filter change, some new sparkplugs and check the clearances.

Happy days :)

I don't remember ever seeing a white one on the road. Even in Google images the white version is rare.

taking the Ghost in for a rego check tomorrow - wish me luck its meant to be 5deg in the morning !!!! FMD !!! Fitted up a new Pirelli Sport Demon on the front last week, still haven't been for a spin on it yet, so looking forward to seeing how the old girl feels with a new front........even with the shitty old front it still steered OK, so a new front it should be really good.

yeh Mr T you are on the money, very few white/silver versions getting around. I have only ever seen the black or red versions before. This one is a keeper :kuda:

Prefer my 900 but got a BIG soft spot for the 1000- first bike I ever rode, although it had a 900 engine in it. :)
