I do like the BPF forks though.. I got them to work very well on the ZX10.. I am hoping I can get the same or similar feeling on the ZX6 ...

The rear shock, well I am prepared to change that, but just got to stick to my budget at the moment, that might come later.. along with my quickshifter..!! ;-)

Yep, I'm just a couple of Kgs lighter than you and the forks work fine as OEM. The spring on the rear shock is way too soft though... plus it needs revalving at least. Raising the rear worked quite well for me too!

Well the first track outing has been completed.. it was a very interesting 'shakedown' session....!! I love the feel of this bike... So light, easy to throw around, braking is awesome... Lock into a turn and it stays there like on rails.. but I know it can be better...

As I have never set up this model ZX6 for the track before, I was just feeling my way through.... I did notice straight away that there was not enough weight on the front wheel like I am used to, I wanted it to feel more planted.. also I found the gearing set up to be very critical..I tried 3 different rear sprockets, but I think I have the right one now... I also missed my quickshifter... badly !! and I felt it was a definite must to keep the momentum going..

Suspension I felt was very firm both ends, but I like the rear feeling at this stage, the front I am slowly backing off to get more travel without being so harsh, but I know this will be a few days of tweaking as I am getting faster to get right..

So some new mods already completed for the Easter ride days, Alloy AFAM 43 tooth rear sprocket fitted, 15 tooth Ultralight front, Annitori QS Pro fitted, 4mm Spacer fitted to the rear shock, Forks slid through the triple clamps 4mm... Oh and I also fitted the R&G tank sliders.. (Look great - perfect fit !!)

So it's all ready for Friday and Monday.... Cant wait.. It will be getting painted after this test...

Macca :-)

OK... well it's finally been painted.. I stuck with the original 'Pearl White' colour scheme..

Have also been testing at the island, tweaking the suspension, geometry changes, rear shock spacers, fork height, gearing, different exhausts but it's finally all done and I am very happy with another 'Macca' standard project...!!

I feel like I have the front end all locked in, as well as the gearing, just got to keep tweaking the rear to get slightly better tyre wear, but things will change again when I fit the Dunlop KR's... I will give it a good push, but I can see an Ohlins TTX making it's way into the rear of this baby ;-)

Anyway here are some pics of the finished project... Not many stickers on this one...!!

Very nice Macca great stuff. Silly question but what does the doo dad hanging off the brake side handlebar do?
It's really all about standing around drinking Dave's beer.

Hi Glen,

The 'Doo Dad' is called a Brake Lever Guard... :-) It is now compulsary for all forms of motorbike racing in the WSBK, WSS & MotoGP of course...

Also in ASBK as well... Basically it stops accidental application of the front brake from another bike or another rider, could be their elbow even.. when racing at times you get very close, even touching.. but you definitely don't want any contact with the front brake unless you are doing it..!!

So the lever guard just helps to deflect any of this contact and prevent a serious crash... This contact could even happen by accident on a track day.. so it's cheap insurance...
