2013 Ninja 650 ABS fuel consumption/economy

Post by jwilde »

Hi all. I have a 2013 Ninja 650 ABS (EX650 - unrestricted) and I'd like to know what average kilometers anyone who has a 2013 Ninja 650 is getting.

Mine is avg in city/suburban riding about 170 kms for a full tank (approx 11 L every time I fill up) and avg touring is 180 kms for a full tank (again, approx 11 L when I fill up).

However, I'm concerned that this isn't right.

I've read the specs of the 2013 EX650 and it has a 16 L tank, yet every time I fill up (when the last bar is flashing), it only takes approx 11 L and secondly from what I've read, the avg consumption is 4 L/100 km. So I should be getting, on average at least just over 200 kms out of a full tank.

**The bike is about 20 months old and it's got 23,056 kms on the clock

Thoughts and comments?

Many thank,

James

Hi. My 2007 ER6 (same engine I think) got around 5L/100k. You might need someone to look at it.See if the dealer will run their diagnostics on it.

my 08 er6 got only 190 per tank until it hit about 5000k's then progressively got better.
now with 27000k's it gets an average of 250k/tank, with a best of 455k's to a tank (albeit slabbing, prone and at a sensible 110kph)
i reckon they just take some time to wear in/loosen up

having said that, if i ride it like a hoon in town, i can get as as bad as 125/tank

Hi diligaf, the bike is about 20 months old and it's got 23,056 kms on the clock. And cheers for the all the responses so far. I just wanted to get at least a bit of a baseline.

These bikes seem to get better with age too. My highest mileage one rides better than the lowest.

the light blinks after 11L as a safety feature. the manual says 16L so it will take 16L.

my old ninja 250 did the same thing (dial showed empty with 1/3 of a tank left), and my ducati currently shows the fuel light with 1/4 of a tank left.

if you can get down to 4l/100km you should get well over 300kms per tank, working your way towards 350...

What petrol (RON) are you putting in it? I had over 50000k on mine and ran it on 91 for most of that.

I've mainly using 91 fuel. There's only been one instance where I used 95 and that's because the only petrol station in the town where I stopped only had 95 and 98 rated fuel.
