Crash Knobs
Hi everyone!
I need a bit of advice. I want to know what people think of crash knobs on a ZX14R? I have noticed a few people putting down bike lately and seeing I have never had a bike with crash knobs I want peoples opinion of them?
Thanks, Dutchy.

Re: Crash Knobs
Worth every cent. I have seen $3500 damage on a ER6n dropped on a roundabout- unrideable and pissed oil everywhere. My school Er6ns (3) have either crash bars or knobs- no damage after multiple crashes. Bent handlebars or broken footpegs only.

Re: Crash Knobs

I lowsided my ER6 with factory knobs ... rode home ..
I've spent over 40 years of my life riding bikes .... the rest of it, I wasted ..
If it's got wheels or tits, it's gonna give you trouble !

Re: Crash Knobs
My ER6 slid into the kerb crash knob first and the mounting bent and it went through the engine casing. Rest of the bike was fine.
So they're OK if you don't hit anything.

Worth every penny/cent!
I had the full R&G set on my old GSX-R750 which was brand new at the time; saved me ££££ when I laid it down on a slow low side into a kerb!

Re: Crash Knobs
I had Chinese cheapies on my bike when I had my recent off. I have no doubt the damage would have been far worse if it wasn't there but I still ended up scraping the fairing. Some people swear by them, some people hate them (concern over bending frames at the mounts)
I plan on living forever..............so far so good!!

Re: Crash Knobs
had an off on my 6 which has crash knobs on it, saved a lot of the fairing but still damaged the tail section.........other people don't like them because they can bend or break the mounting and on mine the mounting is the top engine mount, so could be pricey....
still worth every penny having them though in my opinion...

Re: Crash Knobs
I have a SV1000 in my shop at the mo that got hit at probably 200km/h on a racetrack when a flag marshall waved my mate from the pits on in front of another bike full noise on the main straight. It was a woodcraft knob, and it is ROOTED. Crushed the aluminium of the mount, bent the bolt and fuggered the puck. No damage to the frame of the bike. Even where the puck mounted! Unbelieveable! Damage to bike- bent handlebar, broken front brake master cyl and both brake levers, scratched tank and tail. Mufflers fuggered. Broken front fairing, bent subframe for headlight. I'm working on trying to fix the bike for around $400 in second hand ebay bits. Nearly there too! Fairing is reasonable if you need a new one- $416 from Suzuki. Doesn't compare well to $930 for ZRX one.
Bike would be a whole lot worse without those knobs- remember though they are not designed to save cosmetics- they are supposed to protect the frame- thus the name 'frame sliders.'

Re: Crash Knobs
Thank you everyone for your advice and thoughts. I have decided to go with R&G frame sliders and although they are expensive they seem to be the best.
Thanks again, Dutchy
