Hi there,

I have just been looking through your site and was going to ask if you may be able to either give me a call or flick your number to me so I can call you?

I am doing some work with Rob and Leanne Nelson who are racing in the St George and PCRA Championships this year and have been doing really well. Rob is currently leading D Gade Unlimited Clubsport in St George and Leanne is leading Period 6 GP 125 in PCRA.

They have their last rounds coming up in October and November at Eastern Creek and I am desperately looking for sponsorship dollars to get them through. Their dads Garry and Ron have worked really hard over the past 50 years but are now at a stage where they just aren’t able to fund any of their racing.

I wanted to pick your brain if I could to see if you had any ideas or maybe had some members that might be interested in helping the couple out? I have attached some info for you.

Cheers
Nelso

Yeh but a wise man once said...

" but at the same time I don't really care much about winning anything in D grade either. Winning in D grade is like winning at the Special Olympics. Even though you win a trophy, you are still a retard. I'd love to get fast enough to get moved up a couple of grades, but at my age and physical condition, sadly, I don't think that is likely to happen. "

So we have to look to the future.. :-)

Now if you were doing a national "televised" series like say? ... FX.?? :D

Spoke to Corey and his old man today. Mentioned the cheap tickets. Hopefully they read this and get back to us. Sounds like his oldman is doing 80 hour weeks to pay for everything. The kid motors too!

I've seen a few creative ways to make money to help sponsor racing. You just need a little creative thinking and put in some effort.

One guy used to buy as much race car stuff in England as he could, then load up a truck and drive through Europe selling it while buying porn and grog to take back to England. When he got back to England he would sell all the stuff and that helped fund his racing. His name was frank Williams, which eventually became Williams F1.

Another guy noticed that heaps of people in England had plain cigarette papers with nothing on them. So he went to the company and asked to sell advertising space on them which he paid for. He made millions apparently. His name was Jonathan palmer and he made it through to F1 on that.

Another guy who was helping his son in formula ford used to get sponsored by companies in the form of goods which he then sold to other companies that needed the products. Things like oil, coffee, paper, toilet paper etc. He would sell these products under retail value which meant the companies buying the products were benefiting etc. His son made it into V8 supercars although he didn't last.

In higher level racing, contra deals were pretty common. We would supply race tyres to a team for the contract to supply large quantities of road tyres to either truck companies, manufacturers or corporations.

Then there's the clothing and merchandise sales of large teams (including australian race teams) that bring in millions (one australian team would make $10 million or more a year profit). It's big money.
I live with fear everyday but on weekends she lets me ride.

Been flat out and haven't been able to do anything with this.. Not sure how much we can come up with so will add a list of to the first page..
Sooo, how about we all get out there on the hill at turn 2, with the Marquee, like the old days.
We have a small BBQ so can cook up snags.

Rob, not sure if you want to get involved as you may be able help out with stickers/ signage or something if we can sort this.?

Just received this..

Hey Dave,

Thanks so much for posting details on your site and to all of your members that responded.

One of your members Robert spoke to Corey and his Dad, Guy at the track over the weekend and reiterated there are a few members that may be interested in helping out.

I have been thinking about ways we could get KSRC publicity in return for support for Corey. Speedweek is at FX races on the Sunday and they have a viewing audience of approx 600,000. I can certainly send them details if club members were going to come along but there is no guarentee of any airtime at a particular race unfortunately. Invites will also be sent to other media.
I have sent some information to FX asking them to consider complimentary / discounted tickets which is being reviewed by the board. The team is only allocated 4 tickets per race and two of those are for Guy and Corey so it would be a massive outgoing for Guy if he had to purcase tickets at $30 per head.

We would be able to offer logo’s and stickers on signage and Corey’s bike (ZX10R) and Corey is extremely proactive in acknowleding any support he is given on his website and FB pages, both his personal and racing pages have around 2700 friends and likes so that could help with exposure for KSRC.

The Eastern Creek round will cost the team around $4,000 including everything, breakdown for this round:

Entry Fees: $700
Tyres: $2,200
Fuel: $100
New Fairings: $650
Painting Fairings: $400 (Kwaka Green)

Total: $4,050

This is an important round, not only being the last round where we hope Corey will win the season in the B grade but it will also be a very emotional weekend for riders after so sadly losing Lachie Thomas yesterday. It would be great to not only receive some financial assistance but also have support from Kawasaki members on the day.

If anyone has any ideas on how they feel that both your club and Corey could benefit from this next race we are open to try anything, ie/ putting up a Kawasaki marquee and having a BBQ.......

Thanks so much for your support to date, its much appreciated and I am looking forward to any suggestions you or your members have.

If anyone would like to look at Corey’s FB racing page it can be found at:

Thanks Dave, I will speak to Jane directly regarding getting as much exposure as we can from Corey & the team for this round, I will knock up some stickers for the bike, a banner / Aframe for the Pits & I have an un used KSRC umbrella they can use our one on the day if inclined.

Please all those that have pledged donations I will send you a PM with deposit details & ask that you deposit the funds in the next few days so we can get some cash filtering through to Jane & Corey.

NOW only a handful of members have come forward to help...... Please guys & Gals dig deep & help Corey out! every little bit will help & if enough of us chip in we can make a difference :D

Don't forget to send the info to all your mates too. You never know who might be out there that can help

I still remember buying stuff outside Phillip Island at the GP one year to help out some young aussie kid on a 125. Some kid called Casey Stoner 8)

Just got a message from Corey:

Hi Everyone,

"First of all I would like to thank everyone who has taken an interest in wanting to help me out and put some money in. It's a pretty good feeling seeing all of your positive comments about my riding and wanting to help me out for the last round.

I think it's a great idea to have the Kawasaki tent placed on turn 2 with a BBQ, and all of you supporting me and cheering me on as I race. I've never really had a cheer squad before, so maybe you guys could make it the ultimate experience by getting some pom poms and choreograph a little dance for me... haha only kidding :)

Hopefully all of you are able to make it out to the track, would love to meet you all and thank you in person.

Thank you,

Corey #29"
