Im having a lil difficulty trying to explain to my other half, the best way to sit, lean, whatever, as a pillion

having never had to worry about a pillion too much before, im, yet again, at a complete loss.....


if someone could help me to be able to explain this to her, i would be ever so appreciative

The best advice would be to tell your better half to be a part of the bike of do nothing but hold on.

Yep, just tell her to stay with the bike, still as possible on corners.
Draw an imaginary line through the centre of the bike looking from the front or rear, the pillion should be centred to that line no matter what the bike angle and this is what I assume they mean by being nuetral. Its ok to move around a little on the straights but changing possition mid corners is a NO NO Once a pillion is experienced they can actually help in corners, put their hands on the tank when you brake, warm up ya pockets and a bunch of other stuff.

putting their hands on the tank when you brake is a MUST for the safety of your nuts! what i've found that helps is that i've asked my gf to put her helmet to the side (of mine) we're turning into (she likes to see where we're going too), that way she doesn't lean against me mid corner.

I dodged it all by sending Miss Felix off to get her own licence...all of a sudden, having a two bikes doesn't seem such a terrible idea...even if we have to wait a bit.

Yeah that is the one I use Decoy. They get to see the road and lean the RIGHT way. Haven't had anyone do the tank thing though.

I saw a bird in stillettos being pillinoned on a 05 6r and it seemed she had limited choices of things to hang onto and was using the tank mostly as suport.

Would have made interesting video if the rider had to get on the picks in a hurry and although you can put a pillion on the backof a 6r as they do have pegs and a seat of sorts i dont think that is what they are designed for.

Just take it slow for a while till she adjusts maybe up a highway somewhere without many corners just to get her used to it before attacking the twisties.

The amount of time spent on my bike, discussing bikes, doing bike-related things or things with bike friends means that anyone I go out with will have to ride a motorbike or I'll just get my pale arse dumped... so it looks like I won't ever need to learn the art of pillioning someone!

I have pillioned mates once or twice but they're shocking to deal with as they all ride... get to a corner and they're off the seat! Neutrality is the key to a good pillion

My other half enjoys sitting on the back so much she goes to sleep on the straight long stuff no shit!!! Anyway she uses the tank to support herself and only leans into corners with me when we are hitting the twisty stuff like up the spur. they just have to relax and not move around until they learn how not to upset the balance. Experience and time in the seat is the answer, start off on freeway riding and move on to more exciting roads as you go. have fun I love taking the better half for a ride

My misses started pillioning back in November, she was ok at first. When i say ok i mean, good in corners, not very great under acceleration and braking.. She was also very nervous. I've picked her up a couple times after staff drinks, so she'd had a few gins and what can i say she was tops on the back.. she even told me to drag a ferrari we had pulled up beside.. LOL.. Well she's gotten ALOT better, she holds on with her calves now (calves/inner thighs) and I notice she doesn't hold on to me or the bike very much at all.

We mainly do commuting, but she has been on alot of short trips and 3 or 4 longish open h'way rides.

You'll prob find it'll just take her abit of time to adjust, and develop the balance and muscles required to support herself and get the feel/rythem to be behind you..

I just wish my misses would stop giving me the shits in the car about my driving... Jump on the bike and she loves it.. Yet i drive slower in the car.. It's bloody rediculous i tells ya..

at least she doesn't thump you on the side of the helmet with a gloved
fist..telling ya to slow down when on the bike
its VERY distracting, especially when leaned over in the middle
of a corner on the Melba or Bass hwy...
