Re: KAWASAKI S2 350 RESTORATION
sounds good - when you get the cases back, give them a really good blast with the air duster. Then do it again. And once more for good luckTITANIUMBULLET wrote:....thanks dave and gos. the engine is stripped and will be blasted at my mates engineering shop and hopefully put back together by me properly in a couple of weeks !![]()

Re: KAWASAKI S2 350 RESTORATION
make sure you wear latex gloves whenever working on those cases now. Bare sandblasted ally is a magnet for oil, and once you stain a sandblasted surface - it stays stained. Might be worth exploring options for some type of clear coating for these while they are in really good clean condition.

Re: KAWASAKI S2 350 RESTORATION
I did the opposite - I covered them with oil, working it into all the ports and nooks and crannies and then washed them with degreaser and a high pressure gun. Best way to make sure you get rid of all the grit, and after that they are immune to oily fingers...

Re: KAWASAKI S2 350 RESTORATION
Various bike engine bits (CD125S; CB550; CB750F) and aluminium car engine blocks & heads (D16A8 x3; B18C; B20Z x2 ;B20B)
When I assemble an engine I use HEAPS of assembly lube and oil everything liberally - there is simply no way of not touching the casing outers with oily fingers.
If you are SURE there is no grit left in it anywhere, then skip the high-pressure wash step and just use diesel. Don't have to wash it off until after the bike is assembled.

hmmm OK - not sure about the ally content of the CB motors, I know that the early kwakka triples are really prone to oil-print contaminationBrettZZR wrote:Various bike engine bits (CD125S; CB550; CB750F) and aluminium car engine blocks & heads (D16A8 x3; B18C; B20Z x2 ;B20B)

Yep, thats the one. He retired maybe 10 years ago or more now, moved up to Qld. One of my mates in Sydney had a motor built by him just before he pulled the pin. The guy knew kwakka motors better than just about anybody....
