do sticky tyres pick up more nails?

or am I just unlucky. the old bike had sport touring tyres and not a thing in 5 years. in the last year with sticky tyres I've had 2 nails and a piece of glass. nails repairable. the glass cut the tyre too badly to be fixed.

But I imagine glass would cut a softer tyre easier.
