Ok. My head is down and i'm embarrased to ask this question.
How do I open the seat on my 82 GPZ750.
Looks like a combined helmet lock and seat release mechanism on the left of the seat directly above the rear axle.
this bike hasn't been ridden in 20 years and the previous owner's home made rack interfers with the key action but I'm thinking this key action should release the seat lock and it will hinge up.
Dumb question #1. GPZ750

That's correct ! Undo lock and the lock will release allowing the lever for the seat to move forward and wamo seat should come off

Good one thanks.
Under the seat I found the original tool kit, the Owner's manual and the Warranty booklet.

Good find with the toolkit a booklets
you want to hang on to them as it all adds to the value of the bike but if not throw them in the post
But seriously keep them ! I just got outbid on a booklet for my 750 turbo that went for $89.00 and have heard of them going for over $100.00

It sometimes helps to push downwards on the seat whilst turning the key. Well it helps on mine!
