A bit rattled

Post by Timbo14R »

So after throwing the crim down the road on it's first outing, and running through the crash in my head over and over I can't really pinpoint my error.
Generally when I have spill I know in a millisecond what I did wrong and make a point of learning from it. But this time im not really sure and a bit rattled because of it.
I lost the rear in a big way pretty much at the apex of turn 4 at QR and went for a short flight over the bars taking out both Ankles and fighting the bike off from behind while it was trying to mount me.
I had new tyres for the day but it happened mid way through the third session, so I had thought they were well scrubbed in. I set up for the corner as every other lap, down two gears, tipped in with a bit of trailed brake and wham arse is out tyre squealing and superman.
It's not like I grabbed a fist full of throttle as once turn 4 is apexed I keep the bike over slightly for the entry to turn 5. Looking at the tyre now though the left side looks green as if it never got up to temp. The right side has some grain and pickup, but the left is like new.
I guess I must have been a bit ham fisted with the throttle, and not taken enough notice of what the tyre was telling me? Nothing for it but to repair the bike and get back on it.

Bummer....

Anything on the track.? oil, patched bits, rubble/dirt..?
Tyre pressures ? do you have warmers.?
Slipper clutch working properly.?
Did the rear brake lock..?? had that happen after some yak fat (aka expanding foam someone put in the swingarm to stiffen it - not me  ) melted and dribbled over the rear caliper.... lucky it happened in pit lane...

Maybe you didn't do anything wrong, maybe the bike was just trying to do to you what you'd been doing to it!

As the earths rotation speeds up every 10 years, maybe this happened when you entered turn 4.....

Sounds plausible,
I think I'll still add some warmers to my chrissy list, and pay more attention to my tyres

So after a bit of an autopsy on the crim and looking at some photos pre crash, it seems I scraped a rearset. A combination of a numpty riding position requiring to much lean angle and some shiny new kaneg rearsets set to forward and low.
A total rookie mistake, but at least i learnt something.
Time for some coaching me thinks.
