I think HI Vi has its places.. but when it gets the point that every tom dick and harry pootles around with dayglo shit on its lost its meaning :) Also, feel free to disagree but I don't see it as my duty to make it easier for ppl to see me, I am pretty sure its their job to watch where the fuck they are going ;-)

If the gubberment said pink fluffy pom poms with glitter and flashing leds made bikers safer would you ride around with them on? :D :kuda:
I wouldn't be relying on others to see you, as right as you are no point being dead right. Kevin Magee at a motorcycle training day said this "I work on two theories with cars, they either can't see me or if they can they are trying to kill me" that works for me.

It is a shame that the internet and forums wasn't around when they made helmets compulsory in Australia as the comments about wankers in high vis vest are probably the same about wankers wearing helmets.

Whilst I won't be wearing one anytime soon at least they are taking a proactive approach. Free country I won't be taking umbrage towards them

Well I quite often ride home from work wearing my mandatory work hi vis shirt, but then again that could be just because i'm too old and lazy to change it.

Well based on the the responses here they seem to be more noticed then anything else, though I wouldn't be using this research as conclusive data.

Maybe they should have put a high vis vest on around the shopping centre :P

I work in the construction industry where on some sites you have wear gloves, high vis vest, safety shoes, helmet, safety glasses, what makes it funny though it is open field with nothing going on. Hell I got kicked off the M2 site this week due to my car not having two flashing lights and a reversing beeper, though I did contend that due to my car having a reversing camera it should negate the reversing beeper!

The question on my mind is if hi vis was mandatory like helmets would you still ride?

Answer would be yes right, but would you wear hi vis? no? maybe? or because I have too.....

If I believed they gave a real benefit then I would wear it, regardless of popular opinion. Riding/ driving with lights on seems to get noticed by those who look, but not by those who don't care to see which is where the real problem is.

I say good on those who do wear them but don't believe because you wear one means you are safer than I, it is the same as wearing all the protective gear or not. If you ride to ride tomorrow it doesn't matter what you are wearing. I have crashed on the road and track and it wasn't because of the gear I wear that I am alive (yes it saved the skin) fact is I never hit anything harder than me

We would not need it if the cage fighters looked over their shoulder!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
blind spot checking is a fact of life.
most dont do it in a cage..................
i do cause i ride. Easy fix................
Cops book those those that change lanes and doont allow room.....
OR DONT SIT IN THE BLIND SPOT!!!!!!!!

Hence let the wankers be at least they are on a bike and having a go.

And NO it dont wear a vest!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Team 4 minutes behind everyone else.

In a desperate bid to prevent injuries to competitive motocross riders the governing bodies have decided it is best that all riders wear hi-vis both during competition and practice. Any rider refusing to do so will be fined, or banned from competition.

These recent events have now re-ignited the state governments argument that all motorcycle riders on all public roads should do the same. Some motorcycle enthusiasts are supporting the move stating that "The suggested legislation has the ability to prevent serious injury and death". Motorcyclists from the other side of the argument are labeling these supporting enthusiasts as "wankers" (see pic below)
