BIG Guys track bike
BIG Guys track bike
So I got the ZX14R six months ago with the though of it being the perfecr allrounder; great in the
hills solo, capable 2 up and with the ability to do a track day or 20.
But after 6 months I know that this bike is a keeper and the thought of seeing skid down the track in front of me is to much. So I think its time to let go of my long legged sweed (Husaberg) and purchase something for the tarmac!
I had been thinking an 03+ 636, but given my less than ideal stature ( 6'3" & 120kg suited up) Im not sure a supersports is going to be the right choice? Not having riden a 600 since owning a 600 monster in the nineties I'm a bit out of touch with the performance of the new crop of 600's. Given that the majoriy of my track riding will be at QR I dont want to be left wanting on the horsepower in 6 months time.

10's are straight line warriors which is perfect for QR which has 4 big straights.
6's require to much skill

I know this is highly inappropriate to even suggest but... there's a guy selling a Busa track bike, he spent a LOT $ making it lighter too. It weighs about the same as a modern liter bike now... having said that, it may be a bit too much for QR.

Thats a huge amount of weight loss from what 260+kg? to get down to around -210
Question is why would you

The 2011 ZX10R proved to me hypersports bikes like the Busa, ZX12R, zzr1400 are now totally irrelevant for performance & straight line speed. it also showed me that my 2007 zx6 trackbike is very old tech as it feels and turns almost like a 6.
Saying that i still like riding my barge.

Re: BIG Guys track bike
My 07 Zx10 is the same weight & steers better than my 99 CBR600. I'm 6 foot and really comfy on both bikes. Stereo is 6"3+ and used to get around great on his 636. I think he misses it compared to his ZX10

under 190Kg wet apparently... he had it weighed at WSID while back.Jonno wrote: Thats a huge amount of weight loss from what 260+kg? to get down to around -210
Cause he's a Busa guy... has the $ and felt like it. Not my thing or my kind of bike (especially for the track) but I do admire ppl who do that even if I wouldn't do it myself.Jonno wrote: Question is why would you![]()

Go the 10, I am fairly new to the track scene, but love it and if you're bigger you'll have no worries muscling around the track. Crim's and gumby's go pretty cheap and if set up well will be awesome fun, enjoy

Re: BIG Guys track bike
I've raised the bars, dropped the pegs and raised the seat height on my '04 model ZX10 so that I could fit on it. I'm only 6 foot and 120kg, but I have bad knees that don't bend well. My old ZX9 I had to raise the seat too, but the longer reach to the bars made it a lot more comfortable to ride than the 10. You can change the pegs/bars/seat on most bikes to suit your size and riding position, but it is easier to start with a bigger bike if you just want something to cruise around on. A ZX9 or ZX12 are physically bigger bikes than any modern sports bikes, but you won't be able to ride them as fast if you want to race or show up racers. That being said, I find the ZX14 very cramped, so if you are comfortable riding that, you should have no problem on most sports bikes.
