(NSW) learner on vtr firestorm??
(NSW) learner on vtr firestorm??
So I know it's not kwaka related. I have seen a few times now there is a L plater in western Sydney riding a black firestorm with a L plate clearly visible from the back.
Now I haven't been on my Ls for about 8 years now but I don't think they have changed that much or is there new laws that I don't know about.
If the bike isn't learner legal wouldn't he be better off not displaying the L plate to slow the chance of getting picked on ?

on the snowy ride there was a p plater on a cbr600.....i know that isnt learner/provisional legal but he seemed to get away with it, so maybe they are just lucky enough that the police dont pay much attention as long as he doesnt act like a fool?

Mate unless the vtr 250 naked has grown and got some fairing and twin pipes I dont think it was a 250.Wattie wrote:It's not the 250 naked is it?

Don't understand the L plate one but the P plate one is easy to explain.
If they are still on their Ps on their car licence but on an unrestricted license for their bike, they can ride any bike but still need to display Ps.
I think its a fine only for a higher capacity bike but its loss of license for not displaying L plates so perhaps he's just willing to have a fine and is banking on most cops not knowing its a 1000cc

i thought that if they are still on p's for their car, they are stil on p's for bike and same restrictions apply, otherwise they cannot drive a high powered car but they could ride a bike that will go faster than most cars on the road? i may be mistaken, but that was the way i always thought of it p's on car = p's on bike......Jonnymac wrote:Don't understand the L plate one but the P plate one is easy to explain.

Nup unless its changed since I got my license, its certainly a loop hole.
If you get your bike license at 17 and 9mths. Your on L plates for a minimum of 3mths then you can go for your Ps after 12mths on your Ps you can then ride an unrestricted bike but because your still on your Ps for your car you need to show P plates.
That's how it was 12years ago anyway.
They may have changed it.

Re: (NSW) learner on vtr firestorm??
they must have changed it when they did the revision of the red and green p's (glad i didnt have to do that, only had 1 p plate to worry about 13 years ago and i got booked for it "falling off" a couple of times-didnt want to draw more attention to a modified car!!)

Re: (NSW) learner on vtr firestorm??
So if any one is interested I actually caught up with this bloke at a servo this morning and asked him what the go was.
Basically he said he had a unrestricted bike licence in nsw 20 years ago and moved to qld and let his licence expire or something like that. Then when he has come back they said he isn't restricted but he has to display L plates until he does all the tests to get his "full bike licence" again.
He said he still carried his old licence because even the coppers didn't understand either.
