zxr 750 models
Just started researching the history of the zxr750 and am wondering what peoples thoughts are on the different versions and their availablility (and for parts).
Which was the best zxr750 model for track use? Is the P model elligible for post classic racing - pre modern F1 class?
Which was best for road use?
cheers

Re: zxr 750 models
I only have experience of the L (93 - 95) models but can say that original bodywork is near impossible to find at a "reasonable" price as a mechanic in Meteopolitan's said "most crashed bike in History"!
Engine has plenty of grunt as a trackie so should be good on the road!
Only issue I have has has been the standard brakes but there are plenty of cheap upgrades.
Mechanical parts are easy enough to come by for dealers, eBay or Internet sites.

Re: zxr 750 models
Always nice to have good stoppers eh.
I would be guessing that it would not be an acceptable conversion for pre modern?

Could be; some bikes are running pretty modern gear from what I'm told!
Are you looking to race then or you wanting a road bike too?

Re: zxr 750 models
At this stage I am just kicking tyres so it is more about getting a better understanding of the bike and costs. If it looks like I can have a stab at pre modern for reasonable cost then I might give it a shot.
I was considering it for the 77 z1000 rebuild but it is going to cost me more than I am prepared to throw down the track so it will be a road bike.
I will look at what is around, see what is about and go from there.

Re: zxr 750 models
If you want to have a look over one I've got my trackie that I built up from a wrecked road bike!
To race mine I'd need better suspension, a good tune up and probably a good diet for the bike and me! And better riding skills!
Out if the box I don't think they're too bad but contact Greenman43 on here; he used to race his in the 90's!

Re: zxr 750 models
same same regards skills and diet, not really sure that "racing" is the right word either, circulating at moderate pace ( perhaps a new class CMP
) may be better.
thanks for the offer, would like to have a look but will have to PM you in a couple of weeks if thats cool.

Re: zxr 750 models
Had a closers look at the photos and it seems to be a plain roadie with fibreglass fairings;
- appears to have OEM brake lines front and rear
- still has OEM rearsets
Nothing wrong with any of that but I'd say it has a bit to do before you could call it a race bike but in the face of it looks good!

Re: zxr 750 models
Apparently owned by the President of Indian Motorcycle Club of Victoria who I believe was the one to convert it from a road bike to a track bike. Sold it to another Indian owner who did a couple of track days. Apparently they race the old 1920 - 30's Indians
Yeah is not set up as race bike yet, not lock wired, belly pan looks open. For the $$$ it leaves a little room for rearsets, braided lines. Looks like a good base to start with
